Things to see/places to eat on I-10 Phoenix-TX?
Once again (I love these trips) I'm flying out and driving back a new to me vette.
I'll be leaving Phoenix, and driving to TX. Any "must see" or "must eat" stops along the I-10/I-20 trip back?
Looks like I'll be passing through Tucson, Demming, Las Cruces & El Paso to name a few.
I don't want to get TOO far off the Interstate, but might as well check out some sights if I can (and restaurants! )
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I can't think of anything really interesting other than the museum in Gilbert, AZ, but that's probably out of your way. No good restaurants near the highway that I can remember from my drives back and forth between DFW and Phoenix that wouldn't be way out of the way.

Robbo,
Don't miss Cattleman's Steakhouse about 30 minutes East of El Paso on Interstate 10. It's a working cattle ranch with one of the best steaks you'll ever eat!
The main ranch house (resturant) has a patio looking out over the pastures & a small lake ....nice setting if you get there before sun down.
It's located 5 miles North of I-10 at the Fabens exit +/- 30 miles East of El Paso. Check out their website: www.cattlemanssteakhouse.com or www.cattlemansranch.com
One word of caution.....Their website says open 365 days a year. It's been a few years since I've been there but it was closed once or twice when we tried to go....If I remember right it was early in the week like Tuesday or Wednesday....And kinda desolate.....In the middle of Nowhere!...Try to go later in the week or weekend if you're schedule allows it to hang out and people watch.

P.S. The White Sands Missle Range Museum is just North of Las Cruces...It was the site of some of the original atomic bomb testing....Cool place if you're into that kinda stuff. Website: www.wsmr-history.org

And one more thing while I'm at it....!!!... Since you're driving the Vette back you need to check out Transmountain Road North of El Paso. It's a mountain road cut thru a pass to connect the East & West sides of El Paso. You can pick it up off I-10 coming in from the West and it will take you up and over the mountains to the East side of El Paso and the highway that takes you up towards Las Cruces and White Sands if you plan on going to the museum up there. It's a spectacular drive! No website.....Just Google "Transmountain Road/ El Paso" and you'll get the idea!

When you go through Sweetwater, in Texas stop at Big Boys BBQ you will exit 244 go to HWY 70 and turn Right. It is a block down on the Left. They are a Top 50 BBQ in Texas.
If You want to spend a little time in Midland you can do the Permian Basin Oil Museum and if you go to the Airport you can hit the Commemorative Air force Museum.
Not to sure what else is further West been years since I have gone out that way.

Congrats on the Vette!!!
I've been driving between PHX and El Paso since 1993.
Avila's is awesome Mexican food in El Paso. There is a Rudy's BBQ on I-10, in Chandler, AZ, and two more along I-10 while driving through El Paso. White Sands Missile Range is cool, I worked there for a couple of years, but it will be a little out of your way.
You will find at least one State Trooper near Casa Grande, AZ (between PHX and Tucson), pretty much all of the time. Another one hangs out around Texas Canyon, before the AZ/NM state line. The cops in El Paso patrol the freeway in unmarked cars (mustangs, chargers), typically pulled over to the side of the road, running rear facing radar. Be careful. NM State Troopers will park in the medians and fire head-on radar at you. Mind your speed.
Have a safe trip!
