Inspection/Rejection Criteria
20.27 Tail Lamp.
2. Inspect for and reject if:
d.
Lamp lens is painted , missing, discolored, or does not fit properly.
h. Lamp lens is
not red color .
That's the law. Obviously it's not strictly enforced. YMMV

I just got my car inspected and the guy told me he could not do it blacked out. Spoke to another and he would. Depends on the day and the agency.

Mine aren't painted. They're "tinted" using tint film.

Don't worry, I'm not trying to start an argument. I just cut and pasted the applicable law(s) from the DPS web site. How that law is enforced is up to the individual inspector.
