Texas - new law, no inspection sticker required
Didn't see this posted anywhere, if it's a repost sorry.
Just saw a story on Kens 5 (CBS) website saying that starting next March, you don't have to get a inspection sticker.
But before you celebrate, it seems like you still have to get the vehicle inspected just no sticker on the windshield. A single vehicle registration sticker will cover both.

I didn't see in the story whether or not if you still had to pay the $14.50 for the inspection. I can't imagine the shops doing it for free.

the the Houston Chronicle explains it better:
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news...ag-5573922.php
[...The rules and costs for vehicle owners do not change, though when the payments occur will. Owners in the Houston area will pay the station $25.50 when the inspection is done. The remaining $14.25 associated with Texas clean air programs and inspection oversight is paid when the person renews the vehicle registration... ]
For those in the non-emmisions counties, I guess you would just pay the $14.25 on top of the vehicle registration price.

This is a good change. Now I won't see any more cut marks in my driver's side A-pillar caused by careless and uncaring techs.

I see a lot of confusion come March 2015.
Too bad the state didn't decide to get rid of the front plate at the same time.

Its basically the same thing they have in California. You get your car inspected, you take the paperwork in\send in for registration. This proves that the car passed inspection and can therefore be registered. Its a pretty simple concept really. But I am glad there is wont be an extra sticker on the windshield anymore.

I don't understand...
If my registration was paid last May and my inspection is due in August. Then next year will i have to pay an inspection again at the time of the registration renewal?

Nope.... you have 90 days BEFORE your registration is due to get the car inspected so you can have proof of inspection when getting you registration sticker.
