Here is a copy of the bogus invoice he sent to me...

Please, do not fall victim to this scammer.

Btw, he contacted me from the same telephone number: 714-987-9258.
Here is the email he is using: brooksz06z07@protonmail.com
He also goes by the name: brooksz06z07

I also posted a WTB targa top ad. He responded with some pics that I later found were taken from a seller on eBay. I called him out on that and things went south. He started calling me a scammer. LOL. Oddly enough, all the responses he made on my WTB ad have been mysteriously erased.

Like you, he wanted me to pay with Google Pay. He went into this long soliloquy about how Google Pay is more secure than PayPal, blah blah, blah. I bet he copies and pastes his Google Pay vs. PayPal rant to all potential victims.

And as a heads up, posting a piece of paper next to the item for sale doesn't indicate the seller has the item. I think you can use Photoshop to pull off this imagery.

I reported him to forum moderator Steven Bell. I suggest you do the same so that another forum member won’t become subject to his scams.

Good luck with getting your $$$$ back.

After seeing this post by Lauren84, we checked and determined that brooksz07 also may have registered as Brooksz06-z07, kellybrooks, TexasZL and Nac_z06.

We asked the IB Tech Team to give us a list of everybody who had been PMed by all of those user IDs and sent each of them a link to this thread with a warning to proceed with caution. We've also checked the Transactions Feedback section to determine if there were others who posted about problems involving this user. In doing so, we located this thread posted last month by Mick14 concerning a transaction with Nac_z06:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...y-nac_z06.html

In his thread, you'll note that he was able to get a refund from Google Pay on his failed transaction.

I also see that tcotta411, one of the people we PMed last night, now has posted to this thread that he had an issue with a transaction involving brooksz06z07.

If there are others who have had transactions with any of the user IDs listed above, please let me know and I'll try to coordinate putting you together so you can share experiences and strategies on how to proceed. I'll also make this thread sticky for now so that it will remain at the top of the directory in this section.

Meanwhile, for others, please review this suggestions on avoiding online scammers.

ALWAYS use a credit card.... It's so much easier to dispute.
I'll avoid anything that isn't paypal like venmo, google pay, etc just because paypal disputes are much easier to file.
I thought Paypal owned Venmo...no???

just trying to get up to speed

Paypal does own Venmo, since 2016. But, their fraud policies aren't the same due to the nature of the products:

Venmo:
At this time, it's not possible to cancel a payment that's been sent to a registered user in Venmo. ... Once the funds are in your Venmo balance, you can transfer those funds back to your bank account. Only in instances when the funds are still in Venmo's system, can we reverse the funds with the recipient's permission.

Yes they do, if they focused half their time involved with scamming people and focus their efforts they could probably have a pretty decent job. :/
