Default Wheel Sensor

Did all 1996 Corvette Coupes come with the low tire pressure wheel sensor or was it optional? Also does anyone know how to look at tell if I do have the sensor in my wheels?

Don't know if they were standard. If you have RPO UJ6 you have the LPTWS .

No, the low tire pressure warning system was an option. Check your spec sheet inside the rear storage compartment for the UJ6 option for your car. The reason I say check your spec sheet is that many times the wheel sensors get broken when tires are mounted or removed from the rims. Because the sensors are expensive and sometimes hard to get many people choose to run without them and unplug the blub behind the LPTWS script on the drivers information screen because the light is annoying at night.
On this subject, nothing is more exicting than having a front sensor come apart inside your tire at 100+mph!

That exact thing happened to me in my 95 this past spring only it was the RR one. Was doing just over 100 on a road course and the centripital force broke the band and the thing just smashed into a hundred peices.

It sounded really good on the drive home. Every time I slowed for traffic or a stop light it sounded like a handfull of nuts & bolts were rattling around inside the wheel.

Yes, that's true if your budget can take the hit for an extra set of wheels & tires. I don't get to go to a racetrack often enough to justify it.
