Ecm/ecu remove questions

Ecm/ecu remove questions
I am about to remove my ECM and bring it to my HP dealer so he can send it to have it unlocked. I assume I need to completely disconnect the battery neg and positive cables from the battery and than remove the ECM. Anything I should be super cautious about at this time and also when I reinstall?. Thanks in advance.

Technically yes but I’ve done it w battery plugged in and no issues. (Removal not install )Cover the three plugs with plastic while the ecu is gone so they don’t get dirt and debris in them.

If you're concerned you can get an antistatic bag large enough to hold the ecu. Don't put the ecu in a normal plastic bag. You can even wrap the entire ecu or at least the connectors in tin foil to act as a faraday cage. ESD can be insideous but shouldn't pose a problem removing and reinstalling.
