Argent silver spray paint from NAPA?
Has anyone ever tried the Martin-Senour "Argent Aluminum Silver" spray paint from NAPA? Sprayed a bit out at the store, and it looked pretty good. Didn't wait to see it dry though.
Its #7245, professional detailer line, and labelled for 50's-60's wheels, so I'm assuming that would mean rally wheels.
I've never seen any argent silver available in a spray can locally till this.

For $8, had to try it. I thought maybe everyone interested would like to see the results. I decided to buy a can and spray one wheel. Its not such a brilliant, in your face rally wheel silver; its a bit more subdued with a little bit of gray and metallic. I think the color looks pretty good!

Hard to tell by pictures but it looks a little too grey to me compared to the argent silver on origional rally wheels. You can get the real thing from most of the Corvette Stores. If you are not trying to get to the origional color it does look good. Ed

I agree with SAD, the word 'green' often comes up in discussions about Argent Silver.

Argent silver is not all the same...in 1970 for example there was more green pigment in the color, but name didn't change. Their color may be correct for one year and not another.

The pics I posted really don't depict how they look, especially when you move the wheel around and change its' position under a light.
Now I need to find a pic of a known accurate argent silver wheel for comparison. Or better yet, wait till car show season to compare.

The 68, 69, and 70 I think had the green tinted argent paint. Not sure if that carried over to the entire Chevrolet line or just the Corvette wheels. The green tint was removed from the later years wheel paint. Places like Eastwood used to sell the green tinted paint, but I don't think they still do. I had the tinted paint copied and formulated at Bens Paint here in Orlando at the South OBT location. The lady there said the formula would be kept on the computer so it could be duplicated. A few years ago I did a set of wheels and had themput the paint in spray bombs and did them at home. For the last set of wheels I bought a quart of paint and hardner and had them sprayed by out painter at work. Both sets turned out nice and still look good today.

68 and 69 wheels are essentially silver. 70 and 71 often show a little green.

Where did you get this info? Anything I ever read about the 68 and 69 said they had the green tinted argent. Just curious if I have been wrong all these years.

Thank you all for the helpful dscussion as I am restoring my original 73 rally's. Bought argent silver from Corvette Central and was immediately disappointed at the difference in hue. A bright silver versus the original greenish hue that is original. I am planning on restoring them to the original greenish hue as they all have and are a completely matched set.
The link posted here discusses the codes and paint for 68-70 green hue. Mine were produced on 22 Sep 1972. Interesting and there will never be definitives when it comes to this issue as one gets close to either side of 68-70 due to the nature of a supplier using existing paint resources in mass production. My opinion is if you are in a questionable year, go with what original paint you can find; if not, go with what you want and enjoy!
Hope this helps!...great code deciphering from blseals:

The OP's color is what I used although I did have it mixed for a spray gun instead of using the rattle can. Our NAPA has a place that does mixing about 10 miles away. Has that very slight bit of green hue like my previous cars with rallyes did.
Still waiting on tires to come in...should be today...

Allowing for differences in lighting when these pictures were taken...this is the spare from my '69 with an original tire on it. There might be a slight greenish tint to it...so maybe they upped the quantity for '70 and beyond.
This is what the rest of the rims looked like after painting with silver rim paint from one of the supply houses, can't remember which. Looks like plain old silver paint to me.

The 'real stuff' looks different than most silver paints. It is dulled-down some and has just a hint of greenish cast to it. The photos Faster Rat posted are good examples of a silver spray paint and the Argent Silver for the real thing.
P.S. You can also see the paint "runs" around the oval holes in the wheel....an indication of the 'quality' produced by GM in the 70's. Sometimes, the car bodies weren't much better.
