Hi S,
I believe it's the 435 horse power version with automatic that's the rare one.
This one is described as the 400 horse power version.
Still seems like MAYBE too nice a car for that money?!?
Regards,
Alan

Alan, Correct me if I am wrong but it looks to be the 435.... It says both tri power and 400 hp??? Is this correct? I didn't know they made a 400HP Tri Power?

It's a 400hp car which is a tripower.
This car has been on Craigslist for awhile near me. The price is just about right. The automatic is what keeps the price down, rare or not, it's not the desirable combo. Most people want it as a 4-speed which bears it out in the prices these cars actually sell for.
If it was a 4 speed it would have been in my garage a long time ago. If it was a vert and 4sp it would be a real nice deal......

Default L68

The 400 hp tri power option was L68. Only 2072 were made and I'll bet that most were 4 speeds.

It was the same as the 390 hp motor with the addition of the tri power setup.

Seriously doubt the buyer is asking too little. The car has not been restored and has no factory documentation. If a lot of money and effort had been spent on the underside, there would be at least one picture. Probably rust and grease and leaks from the first 20 years, even though it has supposedly just been sitting for the last 26 years in climate controlled storage. Would like to see the trim tag to confirm it left the factory as a black car (because the T-Tops are stated as now being black) as well as a picture of the engine stamp pad confirming it left as a tri-power. Yes...a real L68 coupe, even with auto, COULD sell for more than that. It would take a buyer that has never driven one of these torque monsters with a 4 speed...or can't.

The trim tag posted shows code 900 for paint, which is tuxedo black, and ZQ4 for interior which is black vinyl. So the photos do match the trim tag.

That is a nice looking car, with a big block and low mileage.

Oops...missed the trim tag photo. Whether the car has 35k miles or 135k miles on the odometer means very little...because the engine and tranny obviously needed to be rebuilt. So does everything else on a 46 year old car. A shiny new paint job always draws in the buyers. It is the first thing everybody notices at the local beauty contests.

Hi S,
Not bad for an old man!!!!!
Actually I owe an awful lot of what I can post in answers to the time I've spent hanging around NCRS types and the literature NCRS publishes.
Regards,
Alan

It seems like there are various opinions as to what a car like this should bring and maybe also just what this car is.
Maybe a good price for someone who would drive it the way it is but not such a good deal for someone who'd want to restore it.

I would assume that the actual mileage is 135k. not 35k since it had to be rebuilt . If it needed rebuilt at 35k then it was beat to death.

Well, the one fact that is not an opinion is that the car has been for sale for around 6 months with no buyers. The same seller had or has a Burgundy 69 but that ad recently disappeared. Maybe that one sold.
We will see how well it does on eBay.

Hi 427,
That's what I was 'implying' when I wrote "just what the car is?".
Usually real cars at the right price sell at a price at which the seller and buyer are happy.

Alan

Looks pretty good to me. Looks pretty correct under then hood and being a 900 paint code car is a definite plus. Auto trans aside I think its priced appropriately. BTW, being unrestored is a big plus to me.

Unrestored would be a very big plus, but this car is NOT unrestored. I didnt see that in the ad. The ad says, new paint along with rebuilt engine and trans. That does not qualify as unrestored. However it is a nice car. Somebody will but it. Tripower under 40k and black.
