Emblem Mounting
Guys,
Getting my '69 coupe back from paint next week and it's time to put on some new emblems. Which emblems get adhesive (and what kind of adhesive) and which ones get "special" emblem nuts if any?
I'll be posting more trim related questions in the near future so I apologize in advance for lame non-performance questions.
Thanks Guys,
Sum

ALL emblems EXCEPT the "Stingray" emblem get a nut to hold them on. The "stingray" emblem has a double sided tape on it where it sticks to the body.
One tip: DO not tighten the crap out of the nuts...because with fresh paint....the emblem can sink into the paint if you tighten it too much.

Nope! The early Stingray emblems had 3 pins on them and a speed nut on each. In the mid-70's, they did away with the pins/nuts and went to double-sided tape.
But, if you no longer have holes drilled for them, just go with the tape.

Hi,
On my 71 the original Stingray script has 4 pins and was held in place with a black colored adhesive. The are no marks on the pins to indicate they ever had speed nuts on them.
I believe the script on 69 cars also had the 4 pins, the black adhesive, and no speed nuts.
The crossed flags on the front of the hood surround has 2 pins with speed nuts.
The crossed flags on the gas lid has 2 pins and acorn nuts.
Regards,
Alan

I am aware of the "Stingray" emblem having small speed nuts that I have seen from time to time....BUT...the new "Stingray" emblems do not have the long studs that allow use of the speed nuts. That is why I DID NOT mention it....and most of the time...one of the studs you can not get to. I believe I still have the original Stingray emblems off a 1970 and I swear they had 4 pins. I have to look and see.
And logic would prevail that if the originals were being re-installed...it could be easily seen that something went on the studs and cut threads.

Hi,
I'd think the history of the car would need to be known in order to determine if it had speed nuts on the script studs originally since I'd think many cars that were repainted at some point would have had speed nuts installed because it seems logical and proper.
I do believe however that the 69+ cars didn't have the speed nuts when they left St.Louis.

Alan

Alan, you are correct AGAIN. The Stingray script which had the pins/nuts had FOUR of them.
