A few weeks ago, I set out to create the ultimate Corvette owner gift guide. When you’re looking at Garage Graphics art, there are two different types from which to choose.

Dye-sublimated or brushed aluminum.

Dye-sublimated printing “uses heat to transfer and fuse dye into specially prepared materials – via two Italian 126-inch-wide fabric printers capable of producing an exceptionally wide color gamut and excellent greyscale.” (That’s printer-speak for beautiful, bold colors with lifelike contrast ratios. )

So, yeah, this isn’t just some poster material or cheap, threadbare canvas. It’s genuine, professional-grade fabric that can handle up to 1,2000 DPI of resolution. It’s also fire-resistant and machine-washable. (Delicate, cold-cycle wash; tumble dry on low.) Customers can order dye-sublimated artwork in small, medium, and massive sizes for front-lit wall applications, back-lit wall applications with built-in UL-approved low-voltage LED lighting, or as a stand-alone display. All of which include a high-quality aluminum frame that’s easy to assemble.

Garage Graphics also prints art onto brushed aluminum. Because, of course, when you’re elevating your garage or shop, real metal adds a touch of class and physical texture. Here, the sizes are measured in inches, rather than feet. And the printing process uses “flat-bed technology and UV-resistant translucent inks that allow the texture of the aluminum to show through. Display edges are all hand filed for a finished look, and each comes complete with hanging cleat, wall stand off, and all necessary hardware.”

From there, it’s as simple as picking an image from the incredible Garage Graphics artist gallery OR supplying your own illustration or photograph at the proper resolution. Acceptable file types include TIFF, PSD (Photoshop), Illustrator, JPEG, or PDF.

Once you have your vision, it’s then all about picking a dye-sublimated display OR a brushed aluminum composite display. Dye sublimated displays are available in up to 10′ x 40′ in size, while brushed aluminum can be ordered in sizes up to 29″ x 59″.

First Impressions

Honestly, I want one (several?) of the brushed aluminum displays so freakin’ bad. I currently own several smaller aluminum posters from a company called Displate, but one of my main complaints is that they’re too small, thus there’s no sense of scale. So that idea of having something truly unique and beautiful in my living room or garage is super appealing.
