C5 Corvette Z06 Receives Stout, New Forged LS6

By -

When your stock Corvette bottom end just can’t take anymore, it’s time to fortify it with a bunch of forged parts.

We’ve all been there. You throw all sorts of boost or power adders at your stock bottom end, and things are great for a while. And as we all know, the LS can handle a pretty substantial amount of power before it eventually requires some internal upgrades. But eventually, you reach the point that YouTuber Garage Topics did with his C5 Corvette Z06. And the time comes to yank that thing out and and fortify it.

And that’s exactly what’s happening here. This Corvette owner enlisted the services of a local machine shop to bore his block out 0.010″ over. Then, they stuffed the LS6 with all sorts of forged goodies. The stock crank was retained but polished. Otherwise, he’s added forged Scat H-Beam rods, ARP rod bolts, and Mahle forged pistons.

Of course, the bottom end wasn’t the end of this monster Corvette motor build. Up top, the stock heads were rebuilt and milled, which helps bump up compression. Summit Racing provided the rockers, and BTR the springs and pushrods. And it’s all topped off with a more aggressive TSP Torquer V5 camshaft. Altogether, the new combo is capable of supporting a healthy 1,000 horsepower.

Now all that’s left is to install this bad boy, get it tuned up, and hit the dyno. And the best part about all of this work is the owner won’t need to worry about grenading his fresh Corvette bottom end. Well, at least he won’t have to worry as much about it. And as they say, you just can’t put a price on peace of mind.
