Chevy Dealership Leaks First Look at Mid-Engine Corvette Body Work
Corvette salesman’s video shows the first pictures of un-camouflaged C8 Corvette’s rear quarter panels.
It is a strange world we live in right now. We’ve lived through decades of mid-engine Corvette rumors, but now we’re actually seeing proof that it exists, and it’s coming sooner rather than later. We also live in a world where GM dealership employees are leaking pictures of alleged parts from a highly secretive automobile that hasn’t officially been seen yet. Will there be any repercussions for this, or is this an intentional leak to get people to continue talking about a mid-engine Corvette? Is Chevrolet purposely allowing these photographs to reach the public?
In this video blog, Mike Davenport, a Louisville, Kentucky Corvette salesmen shows off a few Corvettes he’s selling and preparing for delivery, and saves the good stuff for last. The photograph in question comes at about the 9-minute mark of the video. We’re not sure how this opportunity came to Davenport, but he says the photograph is his. It’s possible that they’re from some kind of dealer training seminar for the new car. Or maybe the dealer’s after-sales guys purchased a pair of fenders for their own parts department.

In any case, it’s interesting as it gives us an idea of what the fender treatment looks like under that camouflage we’ve seen so many times. According to Davenport, these quarter panels will lift up with the rear engine cover as something of a clamshell. This would leave the rear wheels exposed, and hopefully provide decent access to the engine compartment for the do-it-yourselfers.
