Mustang EcoBoost: Can it Beat a C7 Corvette?

This Four Banger ‘Stanger is not what it seems…

Comparing a pony car like the Ford Mustang to a true sports car like the Corvette is like comparing a cat to a dog. Yes, both are animals. But they’re different animals that abide by their own rules. The Mustang and Corvette each offer different levels of performance and compete against very different vehicles. Especially when it comes to the 2.3-liter EcoBoost-powered Mustang.

Corvette C7 vs EcoBoost Mustang

In stock form, the inline-four in the Mustang pumps out 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. That’s a lot less than the Corvette’s 6.2-liter V8’s, which cranks out 455 horses and 460 pound-feet. But the EcoBoost engine has a trick up its sleeve: It takes to modifications extremely well.

This video from BigKleib34 shows what happens when a heavily-modified EcoBoost Mustang takes on a Corvette at the strip. The ‘Stang, according to its owner, is one of the fastest examples on the road with a manual transmission. It’s been fitted with new rods, pistons, camshafts, a new turbocharger kit, a new intake manifold, a tune, and more. And despite the changes, the owner claims that it’s still an “everyday streetcar.”

It may be a streetcar that can be used every day, but this four-cylinder coupe can move. In a head-to-head race against the Corvette, the Mustang spanks the Chevy in the quarter-mile with a time of 11.034 seconds to the Corvette’s 11.204. That’s quick. In the next drag race, the same Mustang takes on a BMW E36 M3 and manages to run a time of 10.960 seconds!

The EcoBoost may not sound as good as a traditional V8, but with a decent amount of upgrades, this pony car will embarrass more expensive sports cars.
