The Supporting Member program paid for the server upgrade before this last one. It has helped pay for bandwidth and expenses all along. I appreciate all of the Supporting Members who helped to keep this place running up until now.
I'm not sure what the future holds for the program. It may be that the benefits are expanded to make it even more worthwhile.
I actually feel a little guilty that I never did it when it was private. I may still do it in the future, but I'll wait and see what changes are made.
Reminds me a little of the "merger of equals" talk when Daimler bought Chrysler.
But hey, on the bright side maybe you can buy it back in a few years for pennies on the dollar?
I totally understand the reasoning behind the sale and can't say I blame you one bit.

This is one of the very few sites that have my good email address and I get very very little spam. I don't think it had anything to do with CF.
the beginning of the end...........does anyone else see it coming?
Those who acquire ALWAYS promise "Business as usual", but almost always have their own plans on how to f'k up a good thing.....believe me, SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE in Internet Brands has ideas on how to change the forum, and once the dust settles, the nit-picking will begin.
I hope I'm wrong, but can anybody honestly say that any company they have been a part of, which was "Acquired" by another, was EVER left alone?
Maybe I'm too cynical, but I smell disaster....What the forum is is a freak of nature, this all happened by accident, and can most likely never be created intentionally, these guys won't be able to resist sticking their fingers in the works, just watch.
Again, I HOPE I'm wrong, cause you don't come by a thing like the Corvette forum every day, it would be a shame if it were killed by someone who couldn't leave it alone.
I for one am SURE they don't want to F'it up, they want to use it. It is of no profitable use if they f'it up!
one question that comes to mind is the donations we make to St Judes and everything else we get involved in.
Now that we are part of a bigger company, will they allow us to continue this? Hopefully they dont pull us back as these donations are not part of their corperate agenda.
I enjoyed your run Troy. You kept a well run-fairly reliable forum that has put me in touch with a lot of new friends. I have learned a lot about my car and other interests from the resident experts. Enjoy your forum "freedom".

I will bet you half of Troy's take-home that St. Jude will go on as usual.

The guys at Internet Brands were very impressed with the St. Jude drive. I specifically asked about this during our early conversations. They fully support continuing the St. Jude fundraising drive.

I sure hope you're right, I just can't see their willingness to acquire it unless they want to exploit it's resources, and that always leads to the demise of the acquired entity......

They will exploit it .. no question about that. But they also don't want it to go away.

...they never DO, but once everybody gets through implementing their own naive individual ideas, the end is inevitable, they never WANTED it to die, and they will stand around scratching their ***** wondering WTF they did....I hope these guys are smarter than that, but history IS history, and I've seen it too many times to remain anything but pessimistic.

Of course their a big business.
Since joining the forum I have not noticed an increase in spam. My email I use here is used almost exclusively for keeping track of my car hobby. So if spam increases drastically I will have an inkling of where it comes from. Been on the C5/6 registry since 1998 and they do not let your name out to spammers.
Bottom line all stays basically the same no problem. Start getting a lot of spam I'm gone and I will get a new mail address.
While I obviously can't guarantee anything I can tell you that I did my due diligence. During our talks I researched who they had bought previously. I looked up several guys who had sold to them in the past and contacted them. I had a few good phone conversations and exchanged several emails. I did not hear one bad thing from any of them.
I'm sure that IB will want to get a return on investment, but that doesn't have to mean a degraded user experience. For example, they can go out with a professional national sales guy and sell existing ad space across all of the sites they own now. Those big accounts can mean a lot of money.
They could also implement new features like a wiki and user uploaded videos. That means more areas of the site to get traffic and display ads. For the members it means cool new features.
