GM encouragement for C5 aftermarket parts

+1. That said...
This aspect of the issue crops up from time to time in EBCM-related threads, but I'm really not sure why it would apply to the C5: active stability management (in our case, TC/ABS/AH) wasn't required on US-built cars until 2007.
The bottom line is, many early C-5 owners are driving their cars with no traction control ABS, because their EBCM has failed. This could be an area where the feds get involved should someone have an accident that can be traced back to failures of a unit that GM no longer builds or repairs.

My question is why is it not possible for them just to provide a way to update to the newer system? Make an interface and program for the BCM and PCM to work with it. The after market makes ABS for custom cars. It just wont interface with our system. GM should know what that would take. And they could sell us that and the newer EBCM.

The BCM and PCM don't have very much to do with the early and late EBTCM. They do interface with a few signals and the serial data buss. The issues to overcome are:
Brake Line rerouting (especially the 97 & early 98 rear mounted EBTCMs) would be critical for safety.
Installing the correct SWPS for the new EBTCM
If you have AH, the correct accelerometer sensors and brake pressure sensors to properly interface with the EBTCMs
Everything else is easy. You would have to splice in the new EBTCM main connector on to the existing wire harness.
This:
New 2001+ EBTCM module connector and harness connector
VS
Old early module connector

Drifting
If a fix were ever done, wouldn't it be neat to move to say a CT module . That way the availability would be there. Also, surely deep in the bowels of GM and their suppliers there surely are board level parts that are interchangeable. So count me in on a vote ask Tadge. to help some really loyal owners. Some of us keep or C5's because we like the car!

I also recommended rewording the "GM encouragement for C5 aftermarket parts" to something some descriptive to the heart of the matter...like "critical C5 safety parts no longer available."
