Default '98 Vette LCD SCREEN Questions

I'm wanting to put a Screen in the '98 C5. I was told that a touch screen stand-alone (which is ideal) is a double din and not small enough to fit in the center console. I was going to use it for a CD player/radio substitute. Well anyways, I'm wanting feedback on cheaper units and combinations on how others put a screen in there Vette. Preferably a stand-alone, but flip-out is always good as well. Pics would just be.... just so awesome as well. Thanks

I'm really wanting to make a jump on this. If anyone has any help or suggestions for me, please chime in.

you can get 'flip out' touch screen units from that will fit in a single din sized opening and get the vrumvrum mounting plate to make it look good.

What i did with my application is to lower the a/c controls, cut out the center divider bar and then mold that back in. It sounds like a lot of work but is really simple and fun.

Scott, is it possible for you to take pictures of your system and PM me? I'd like to see how it turned out.

sorry but it's not possible yet... I'm about 80% done with my system build and the parts aren't actually installed in the car yet. I am waiting for some vinyl holdouts for my backlit touchpanel. When I get those in I will be able to paint the piece and then take pics. I'll probably have the panel fully finished in two weeks (i'm only able to work on this on the weekends and next weekend is v-day...no getting out of that one )

If you browse through the recent threads you'll see a few posts of people putting screens in the c5

I had my center bezel modified so that the AC did not need relocation. HU is the Kenwood DDX 7015.

As you can see from the previous posting, it can be done. Notice there was quite a bit of modification done to the interior trim panel to make it work. Also, not sure what mods were necessary in order to mount the double DIN unit in the center console. I was planning on replacing my factory HU with a pioneer AVIC-N1. I've placed three orders for the N1, and all three have been cancelled. Pioneer is coming out with an AVIC-D1 (double DIN unit) in late March, early April. I might go that route, if I can convince myself that I can do the necessary mods myself and have it look like it was done at the factory. I would like to see installation pictures of a double DIN unit (step by step), if anybody has them.

i may have some of my install in a couple weeks. If orders come in on time i should be able to get the install done on presidents day.

my mounting will be a little different because it's a special application but the modification of the center bezel will be similar. I've been taking pics along the way, i'll post them when it's all buttoned up

Thanks Scott! If it looks feasible to me, I'll change my plan from installing an AVIC-N1 to an AVIC-D1.

I got my AVIC N1 online for about $1300 plus a bout $100 for the other parts to fit it. I think it's direct replacement is the N2 which comes out in Spring. That could explain why the N1 orders are not being filled.

Here's a pic of my installation:

If you've not seen it here's a D1 press release:

Best of luck on whatever you choose.
