Just a quick question before I take it apart. The door speaker on my Bose/88 is sounding not to good lately. Can you replace this with an aftermarket speaker? Does it matter that it is the Bose system, and I just want to replace the speaker with that of a say, Pioneer, or something like that?

Read the FAQ at the top of the forum, or you will be hung by your ***** by Bogus.
Pioneer makes crap. Buy their speakers and be laughed at by your friends and family members. I own a pioneer head unit, so I have the latitude to say this, and for the fact ive cooked 10 out of 10 speaker products ive aquired from this company.
Just think to yourself WWSD ???? (what would snoop do?)
He'd replace everything with equipment designed this century, or just replace the original bose crap with original bose crap. eBay would be a good start to look for cheap used replacments, or even ask around the forum for someone ripping out their bose. Putting aftermarket speakers on bose OEM amplifiers is queer.

You can't put aftermarket speakers on the stock Delco HU of the 88 Vette. In that model the Blose system runs the four 4" speakers solely off the seperate Blose amps. There is no preamp in the HU and since you can't run 4-ohm aftermarket speakers off of the 1–Ohm Blose amps you would need to install an aftermarket HU as well just to get power to those aftermarket speakers. Did that make any sense? Oh, and don't waste your money on Pioneer speakers.
BTW, if you do decide to do this make sure you run new speaker wire from the aftermarket HU to the new aftermarket speakers. Otherwise you would have to cut the stock speaker wires to bypass the Blose amps and personally I think butchering stock wiring harnesses is ghetto as hell...but that's me.
