I need to redo my system. i am really not happy with the current setup....
6 1/2" Diamond Audio Hex S600
Diamond Audio 5 1/4 rear
Eclipse Amp (4X85 watts)
Alpine 9835 HU
JL Stealthbox with MTX thunder amp
Here is my problem, I do not love the highs from the Diamonds and they lack midbass (imo). I would like to get the highs as close to my Sonus Fabers in my bedroom and a lot more midbass.
What speakers would u recommend? I was thinking of 6 1/2's and also 8's in the doors. Has anyone done this before? How would u set up the system? Again, I was thinking of either running the rears off the hu or ditching them altogether. Lemme hear ur thoughts. TIA
Midbass is really install dependant... As far as highs, what do those lack?
I wouldnt run less than 100 watts or so to the fronts... Deaden the doors, inside skin and out, seal it up as best as you can. This will help with midbass.
With rear speakers, yuo might have some cancellation going on. Turn those completely off and see if your midbass is better.
The new (jm labs) Focal K2 power series have killer midbass, and the tweeters are superb. similar to tweeters foudn in JM Labs Grande Utopia home speakers...
They are very very detailed, accurate...
In your situation, I'd run those, at about 150-175 watts per side.
I tried looking for some of the speakers suggested in the last thread but could not find them to listen to. I really do not want to buy something without listening to them first. PLUS I am not installing myself- so if I don't like them, I will have to pay an installer to put them in, take them out and put them in again. Is there a website where u can find people who have the speakers installed in their cars in your local area to listen to them? SVS subwoofers has a site like this for their subs because they are internet only company.
Regarding the highs, when played fairly loud (I do have a vert), i get fatigued pretty quickly.
Your hex series should have plenty of highs. The 6 1/2 in the doors should give you good mid bass. Did you put some sort of sound reflective material behind the mid bass. I run Hex in all my cars and love them. I run a lot more power to them they seem to love alot of power. I have a 900watt four channel amp going to two sets of hex's and they seem to have plenty of mid bass and the high's sound great. You can also look at getting the D9 Separates from Diamond they have a 7inch mid. I am going with the D9 Separates in the front a set of hex in the rear and one D9 12. It should rock.
Would I be better off bridging my Eclipse Amp to run the Hex's? Can I bi amp them (one channel for 6 1/2, one channel for tweeter)? Are there any speakers that incorporate and 8", 6 1/2" and tweeter?
Thinking of swapping out my amp.....which one would u go with for SQ? I have a buddy that owns a shop...I could get an Alpine V12 for cost or any JL amp for cost. Do these actually sound good or are they just for thumping?
Here is what I just finished installing in my coupe.
Alpine 9833
JL 450/4 amp (Ch 1&2 bridged for sub 300W) (CH 3&4 to front 75W per channel)
JL XR653 3 way components
JL 10w3v2 sub
This setup rocks! The EQ is set flat and everything I have played so far sounds perfect. The HI-Pass and LO-Pass filters on the amp are set at about 90Hz @ 12db/Octive.
Alpine will be a clean amp for SQ. I now Steve that builds all the alpine cars and they make a good product. I would go with a large 4 channel alpine that way you can run the gain like half way. Or you could see about getting the new Diamond amps they have really changed. I saw the new line at CES.
