Default Light Weight Audio Nirvana ?

I would like to significatly upgrade my stock system, but because of performance priorities, do not want to add a lot of weight i.e. heavy subwoofers and amplifiers. Any ideas?

wow... that was funny.....

i would probably suggest finding one of those small audiophile amps (there was a thread about them on here some time ago) and a good set of 3 way door speakers that.

for base...you'll pretty much have to cut corners here, why dont you buy a selfpowered tube and set it up to be quickly removed when you are going to go out to the track.

Pull out all the Bose crap and get an iPod (similar to Snoop's suggestion). The Bose HU and front spanklifiers are worth 15 pounds, easy. Better sound, better music selection, and net weight savings.

Or...

I like the idea of "remove it for race day". My heavy MDF sub enclosure in the rear compartment comes right out - two connections and it's done. The amp is trickier - you could rewire everything with quick releases, but it would still be a PIA to remove.

So, Bose out, lighter HU in, lighter door speakers in, ditch the vibrating paper plates in the back ("rear speakers"), put in an easily removable rear sub enclosure, and the lightest amp you can find.

on second thought... i have a 4x75 phoenix gold titanium amp and it isn't really that heavy. it runs my entire system (fronts and sub) and sounds great. I wouldn't worry about the amp weight, if a few pounds is gonna make a difference...go on a diet

YOU GUYS ARE GREAT

Neodymium subs! good luck finding them, cant think of one offhand

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read the opening. Aura has always had those and now Critical Mass makes them. Critical Mass latest and greatest is awesome. A 10" or 12" at 18lbs, carbon woven cone, handles 3000watts, and has 3 1/4" of excursion

Do Planet Audio still make their NEO line of subs. They were an excellent speaker, weighed nothing and had very low mounting depth. Plus they were affordable.
