Subwoofer volume
When calculating the volume of a box for a sub, do you subtract out the volume taken up by the sub (coil, magnet etc.) itself? Or when the manufacturer publishes the volume required, did they already take that into account?

You need to account for anything that displaces air inside the enclosure. Subwoofer, braces,screws..etc... Some manufactures provide recommened air space that includes displacement of the driver...some do not. I would read the fine print on the paper work that came with your subs. The Thiel Small parameters should list the drivers dispacement incase you have to add that to the volume. I am sure you know this but I will put it in for anyone that does not. Make sure to use internal dimensions for calculating air space and not external.

Thanks. I got the polk momo subs and nothing addresses the volume of the woofer, just a .35 cu ft enclosure is speced for sealed box. Their website doesn't address the issue either. So 0.35 ft^ is my plan until I call their tech support to verify.
