Default Help on deciding

I have an 01 Coupe and was looking to find out whether:

1. The DVA-7996 is compatible with the stock CD changer? Will the changer still work once this unit is in place?

2. Which is better with the DVA-7996, the TME-M760 or the TME-M770 which I believe is touchscreen?

3. Will the JL Audio 3 way component be good or great for the fronts and I am leaning on not putting anything in the back for speakers?

I have the JL audio 500/5 amp.

i don't think anything can use the stock changer except the oem bose unit.

go with the touchscreen

i've never heard the jl 3-ways but i've only heard possitive reviews about them.

i'm only running fronts...good choice leaving out the rears

where are you going to mount the screen?

just realized it is the 6.5" screen... that'll be an easy install in the stock h/u location.

The stock changer is made by Pioneer but it will not even work with a Pioneer head unit
Definitely go for the 3-ways up front with no rears. I take you have a sub by the great amp you have?
Sell the changer on e-bay, I did years ago I sold it for more than a new Pioneer 12 disk changer cost. Then you will be ahead to get a matching changer for whatever HU you choose.
Good Luck

NO Sub yet? Should I go with 10" or 12" custom or go with the JL STEALTH BOX since everything else, i.e. front speakers and amp is already JL?
Do you think JL will sponsor then?....yeah right I am for thinking that

good luck on the JL sponsorship

You do not have to use JL for a sub though IMO JL is a heck of a good sub. There are two guys on the forum that sell boxes, Vurmvrum and Subthump. I have never used either, no one makes a sub enclosure like I have

i thought your box was a q-logic box

i didn't realize vrumvrum made a box; his brackets are top notch so i would assume his boxes are great too. subthump has gotten nothing but great reviews from forum members.

go with a 12, you can always dial it back if it's too much. I have an inexpensive image dynamics 12" and i'm really happy with it. It's tight and has a great low end.

ouch, that hurt
Just for that I'm cutting you off all my bank accounts

I've heard the Eclipse is a good piece. Also check out the Pioneers, they get great reviews and beat the Eclipse in a "Car Audio" magazine test.

Do you think the drive mechanism would go out pretty quick....opening and closing?

I guess the cd changer won't work on this one either huh?

What is preventing the cd changer from being compatible with any other H/U?

i doubt the drive mech. would got out quick. my last eclipse unit was very well made and i never had a problem with it. Of course with anything that moves it has teh potential to break, you would be avoiding that with the alpine unit.

I think what is making the cd changer not compatible with any other H/U is $$$. It is much more cost effective to make one interface for a h/u that comes on thousands of cars to control a specific aftermarket changer. plus people usually add cd changers to stock systems because they don't want to add an aftermaket h/u and all the hastle that goes with it.

Thanks for the input. There is one added bonus with the eclipse that the alpine does not have and that is NAV. I think cost effective wise the eclipse is a better deal, don't you think?

You do all your own work on the car right?

I am just too scared to open things up 'cause I will probably end up spending more for someone to fix my screw up.

Do you think AL and Eds stereo shop reputable enough to work on a vette?

Will stereo work cause any problem to the ECM if it has the LS1 edit, I mean you are going to have to take off the power source for some time right?...or does it not matter? Sorry for all the dumb questions.
