I've used a V-1 for more than 4 years, upgrading the unit about once a year...so I learned to use it well and I did like the arrows, that said it had far too many false signals. Yes, it was in full logic mode and I new what was and wasn't a "threat" but it was too damn annoying. Passport has far fewer falses, in my experience, and not having the arrows makes it no less useful. I'm still not completely satisfied with the Passport but I do think it's an improvement compared to the V-1.

I would NEVER drive anywhere without one... we have them in all 3 of our cars... love it... I can normally tell when its a false pickup... I would rather it pick it all up on the road that not... in shopping centers I just turn it down... its saved me many times...

V1 is the best!!! Just got my current one back from Valentine after latest upgrade (actually the "upgrade" was an exchange for a brand new unit) Sure, you're going to get some false positives near shopping centers, etc. but no more than my Escort used to. Only problem with the V1 is you can only get them from the factory, at full price.

i own both the 8500 and the v1 and both work fine and have good range. the v1, IMO, does pick up more X band chatter but the 8500 picks up stray X band garbage signal, also.

my issue is that i wish i could get the electronics of the 8500 with arrows. but i really like having the arrows. in most situations, it's obvious where the radar source originates, but if you're on the highway, it's not always so obvious.

i think the v1 is worth the extra money time and time again.

There were some reports of extra falses with the latest POP V1 units. I've heard of some complaints there but none with the older V1 unit that I use. I hesitate to upgrade to the latest V1 with POP due to the reports of falses with the latest V1's.

The Valentine One does make more noise because it actually detects all radar and laser unlike the competition. The 8500 X50 fails to alert to the laser gun in stealth mode and cannnot detect POP as well as the Valentine One.

I understand that you can shut off the X band to solve that problem.

The only thing I don't like about the V-1 is that high price it is the highest price detector yet the design is archaic, odd shaped and not as erogonmic as other detectors that cost half the price of the V-1. It doesn't give you voice alerts like most higher end detectors and I would think that the K, KA, laser signal alerts are hard to identify with those small LEDs' instead of voice alerts. It doesn't have all the bells n whistles the lower priced detectors have like compass, voltage meter SWS. For the $$$ all of the other detectors are a better buy for the $$$ and are more stream lined and smaller but the V-1 has one thing going for it is that arrow system and if it really works as far as long distance detection and low false alerts.

So how much did the upgrade cost? They actually give you a new detector not your old one back? As far as falses go just shut the X band off.

I don't know what full logic mode is but what I'm finding out about the V-1 it doesn't have alot of features like other high end detectors out there. I know with all detectors you will get your share of falses. The majority here prefer the arrow feature. I just don't like the shape of the V-1. I mean if it was $200 that would be fine with me but no voice alerts to make identification easier compared to the way the V-1 is now with those little LED's. You have to really get to know the sounds of the beeps because trying to look at it may be confusing.

You are sure going to a lot of trouble to prove that the V1 is an over priced piece of junk..... kinda like a first year C6

POP mode is uber-rare and can't be used to issue tickets (per the V1 web site) Unfortunately, I don't believe you can disable it on the V1 (correct me if I am wrong) and is one of the sources of its falses. Per the web site you quoted previously in another thread Radar tests the V1 is identical to the X50 in range on KA & K bands except its filtering is middle-of-the-pack.

P.S. Radarking, I am assuming that you are affiliated with Valentine as every post of yours on this web site (and about 10 other web sites) for the past several years has dealt with selling the V1. I did not see you listed as an approved vendor?

I love my Valentine. But, last month on a trip back from Memphis I rounded a curve and right in front of me was an Illinois trooper aiming his radar or laser right at me. Point blank range.....the Valentine did not register anything at all....just silence.

I was lucky because some cars ahead had slowed me down to about 70 mph. But it was a bit baffling why the Valentine was silent, if it was a laser perhaps he was aiming but did not shoot. My Valentine unit is about 3 years old and has not been upgraded. I wonder if the Illinois troopers are using something that my older Valentine is not detecting. Just what is the latest upgrade and is it worth having?
