I have a valantine 1 and i love it and it work great but when a cop hits me with his laser not much I can do. I was wondering if jammers work and if so whats the best one? And if a cop shoots you with his laser and he gets an error would he just let it slide or think you have a jammer? And where would you install it on the vette?
I don't think anyone has ever been able to passively jam radar successfully and I believe all active jammers are illegal. Active laser jammers aren't illegal most places, but I would guess interferring with an officer might be a possibility.
There are units available and tests on the net... google is your friend.
looks up a company called rockey mountain radar(??) they have a jammer called the "black widow". this is the only one tested by consumer reports that works every time no matter what. it is effective up to 100ft, and by this time you should see the cop and slow down. check it out, i was thinking about getting this for my car, but haven't yet.
also the kicker about this unit, it used to be sold at wally world until the reports came out that it actually worked
By my research the active laser jammers are quite effective, though pricey. Active radar jammers are illegal everywhere by order of the FCC. Passive radar jammers are crap.

If its only effective up to 100 ft what would be the point in having one? They don't work. None of them.

Just got a ticket in TX for doing 78 in a 65 MPH zone. It was at night. I had my Passport 5000 on and it didn't peep. Trooper came from nowhere and hit his lights. I stopped he walked up to the car shinned his flash light on the Passport. Asked for the usual and said he'd be back. He returned with is citation book. Lesson learned.
I have a fair bit of experience with systems way more complex than the ones you might buy in the stores.
The game of electronic countermeasures is a chess match. You buy the jammer, program it to counter the current "threat" and the bad guy (or the LEO) changes the frequency, band or type of detector. That could get you a ticket.
You need to know what system is having a go at you, what's its range, the sensitivity of the receiver, the operating band ...........nuff said? You may be OK if you only drive in one city and know what the locals use. You buy a receiver/jammer combo that works on the wrong frequency and that gets you a ticket.
We can't afford to keep up with all the potential detectors out there even if we could jam both radar and optical systems. In any case, a smart cop uses his detector to give a warning at the last moment. You get the warning late or jam the detector too late you get a ticket

I forgot what it is called, but im sure it is in their website. It also integrates well with the 8500 radar detector.
Escort ZR3 Laser Shifter. It's been tested and works well (at least down to 500') It worked it's little magic for me on two occasions. It even had one guy going WTF? He shot me in the back after I went by just to see if he could get a reading at all. He did of course because by then I had already shifted it to standby mode.
