Is there any way to install a tweeter in the Bose system without having to rewire the entire stereo? I would like to splice two in on the existing speakers. I have been considering adding a couple in the front doors if possible. If not, I am pretty happy with the unit as it came stock.
Just put them in parallel with the 3.5" Bose twiddlers. Use at least a simple cap crossover. You can also tap these wires on the back of the head unit.
Most tweeters if bought in a "kit" come with some type of crossover network. For a tweeter, you need a high pass filter type of crossover. You do not want low frequency signals to get to the tweeter and cause distortion. A capacitor of a specific value, makes a simple crossover network for a tweeter. The capacitor will come with the tweeter kit.
More expensive tweeters come with a more complicated crossover network consisiting of inductors, capacitors and sometime resistors.
Since the C5 amps driving the Bose Twiddlers is only about 18 wrms/ch, you do not need expensive high power tweeters. Placement of the new tweeters is critical. Unless the tweeters point at the car occupants heads, they are being wasted. This is why many cars mount the tweeters in the roof pillars.
