I have a 1985 model originally equipped with Bose, but the Bose gear was all gone when I got the car. I would like to put some decent speakers under the dash pad, and would like to know what size will fit, and what the best way to install them would be. I believe I heard that Bose cars didnt have any speakers in the dash, and the grilles are blanks. Any advice? Thanks!
yes you are right about Bose equipped not haveing speakers in the dash, they are in the doors. Delco steros were in the dash. but not sure on the size or the size in the doors after you take the bose speakers out?? which to be honest would be a better place to put new speakers, in the doors pointing rear near you as the dash ones just point up into the wind shield.

I would recommend putting both sets in (dash & door). Especially if you are going to an aftermarket head unit as the old bose units are simply not as good as the new technology head units.
Note that although the speaker fires to the windshield, it reflects towards the driver enhancing the quality of the sound if they are crossovered to contain high frequencies.
I already have a newer Pioneer unit in the dash, one of those big ones. I'm happy with it, and have Pioneer 6x9s hooked up in the rear. I just don't have any sound in the front, and I'm not a fan of speakers in the doors. Had trouble with them before (getting wet) and I have new door carpet with no holes in it. I am mainly looking for advice on what type of speakers will fit under the dash pad, and how to install them. Are the speakers attached to the dash pad, or something underneath it? I've had the pad off, and it looks like it would be a real pain to get it back in with speakers hanging out from under it! Thanks!
