This is just a guess but most likely the "r" output does stand for rear and is most likely non-fade (does not fade with fader changes on the deck to front/rear). This is the output you would want to use for your sub.

Thanks, I have arranged and rearranged my connects etc and I only get all rear or all front.
The new receiver will fix this, it has 2 Pre Outs.
