Quick IPOD Review...
If you have the factory CD changer you get a short cable that goes in the back, and a 12' cable that runs to the iPod. You disconnect the factory cable from the factory CD changer. You plug the short adapter cable into the factory cable, and the other end into the interface box. I didn't want to lift carpet or anything so I just set the interface box in the well underneath the CD changer. Then I ran the 12' cable under the Lloyd cargo mat up to the front of the car. The cable is white, which is tacky as hell, but I wanted to see how this all would work out. One of these days I'll run it under the factory carpets.
I ran the cable between the console and passenger seat, just tucked it in. I found that if I removed the cigarette lighter and ashtray, the 60GB iPod would fit in that area, laying on its side with the screen facing the rear.. You can almost close the door over it, which holds it nicely in place. For normal on/off and next/previous I use the factory head controls. For deeper control of the iPod you just lift the door and there it is in your hand.
I have found that if you use the random control on the head unit it makes the iPod go a little crazy and it doesn't play across the whole song collection. Better to set the iPod to Random. Also, the head unit disc/track numbers are often meaningless. If you turn the iPod on with the head unit, but then turn it off with the iPod controls, the two get "out of synch" and you have to shut both off to get them to behave. Other than that, works like a charm, and sounds great. It doesn't sound *quite* as good as CDs imo, but very, very close. Recommended.
I'm hoping that after I get my Elite Engineering stiffener plate installed the temp in the console will go down enough to make that a practical iPod location. It fits in there like a champ, but I tried it once and it got hot as heck. We'll see.
Make sure you get that EE tunnel plate mounted soon; there's a forum member that mentioned that he USE to store his iPod in the center console area until it crapped out on him (bad HD). Hard to say if the tunnel heat was to blame
Gannet - I sent you an email hoping you could tell me which harness you used to connect from the changer cable to the IPOD2CAR - the one I was sent doesn't match up to the connector that connects to my changer, unless there is another connection to be made somewhere that I don't know about.

I noticed, what I beleive to be, the Peripheral interphase picking up some backround noise and possibly generating some of it's own. It is only discernable if no music is playing and the volume is crancked at between 80%-100%. It sounds like a light/mild buzz/humm, (this may or may not be be interphase generated), coupled with what seems to be seconds, as in time passing, ticking away (this may be backround noise from the head unit's clock).
I doubled checked and rechecked all my new conections and its associated wiring and can not get rid of this mild backround noise. It continues with either the engine operating or shutdown.

Well just getting around to posting this update. Been really busy at work travelling back and forth coast to coast.
Anyway about this backround noise issue: I decided to return the ipod2car I bought at best buy ($213 is what i originally paid for)and installed another identical unit I picked up a lot cheaper on ebay($130 with shipping costs included). I figured I would save some money and see if a replacement unit would clear up this issue at the same time.
I would have to say that the light hum/buzz is reduced by about 60% of what it was before (and it wasn't bad before to begin with), but the ticking from what might or might not be the GM radio's clock is still there.
Still, it is only percievable when the volume **** is cranked near the top end of the scale AND NO MUSIC is playing. It is NOT percievable when your tunes are a rocking.
I have not called the makers of the product yet to inquire 'bout this slight backround noise. I do plan on keeping this thing even if this is normal to this devise. I am still pleased. The music sounds outstanding.
Again. since it not discernable while the music rocks at normal, high or even extreme volume levels, it is almost a non issue to me...almost.
On another note:
Someone posted something to the efect that his tunes did not sound CD quality. That it was close but not quite. I would have to say that maybe his mp3's were not recorded at a higher bit rate. Remember that garbage recordings equal garbage playback. MY mp3s recorded at 160kb and higher all sound awsome. Even the 128kb wich is said to be the absolute minimum for CD quality record/playback sound great on this thing.
I'll try to post an update soon.
