Hey JMc - I noticed you have researched this a lot. How big a job is pulling the head unit to connect the cables? I noticed one vendor on Ebay says "model specific instructions are included". I've removed door panels, seats, etc. to do the insulation mod but have never tackled the dash.

It's kinda like that famous FDR quote: "The greatest fear we have to conquer is fear itself" or whatever it was he said...
I did a search here on the forum and I think I found a page that Ken King from Vette Essentials wrote and photographed for instuctions on pulling the console to get at the head unit. Once you've done it once, you can do it again in 10 minutes or less. It took me a little longer the first time, but it's really pretty easy.
Once the head unit is exposed, you remove the screws and then sort of pry between the tabs of the HU mounts and the rails that it's attached to with a flat blade screwdriver for a little leverage and it pops right out.
Together with a Griffin Airclick remote, my ipod remains 100% hidden. The bose deck _usually_ controls the ipod, but I actually prefer the airclick remote.
