I like my eD 9Kv.2 D2s...

I also like the prices of those amps.. I should get rid of my older tech Orion HCCAs for those eDs

You can build your own box if so desire, and mounting brackets for the speakers I will make you some mdf ones for 10 bucks or so shipped if you like to save you some money. As well check out edead from elemental designs its killer deadening and probally way less expensive. Im just looking to save you a few bucks here and there

Pentavolvo always has the hook up when it comes to ED. I got my 3 11Kv.2's at these deal prices. I just received my eDi 6500s today and got them at a good price too. I started running the wiring in my truck for them and should have them playing music tomorrow.

You will find many a post about sub box building here. You'll also find me voting for making your own if you have the time and access to basic tools. I built my box for the Vette for $20 in supplies (mdf, screws, and glue).

You can save a lot of money and get a good sounding system by asking around here. You have already seen that. Keep us posted on what you decide...

Thanks so much for everybody's help...It's so easy to get caught up in wanting the highest quality this and that, but I need to keep myself grounded in a bit of reality. Here I was considering $100 6x9's, and now I'm considering $400 Infinitys, two power amps, capacitors, over-my-head units, and bombtastic subs.

I'd like to make my own box...Sounds simple enough with the plans in the FAQ, and anything over $100 seems too much for what it is. Is there a source for Light Oak carpet? penta: theoretically, if I opt to make my own box, I'd think that mounting plates would be comparatively simple. However, if you can just trace yours and zip them out with a jigsaw, that would be fantastic. I'll definitely keep that in mind, and give you the green light when I'm set to roll.

Now just another idea... Memphis Belle Mojo amp "1300 watts" (5 ch). 1 amp that fits on the back wall, nice clean look. And for Subs... Infinity Q Perfects 10 or 12 inch. Just an idea!
Next week Nav units

Mo'Phat...

Scott's setup would be a good option to consider. He is a helpful guy on this forum too. Plus, you could check out his Car-puter. That'll really make you want to blow your car audio budget.

If you make your own box, there is one cut that you must use a table saw. The rest of the cuts can be done with a skill saw, though a table saw will go quicker. I cut everything I could with my skil saw and then went over to my neighbor to do the one table saw cut.

2002-C5 - I'll look into the Memphis amp, thanks!

Duramax Dave and scott_fx - re: your box and sub...I'm interested. What's the model of sub and recommended wattage necessary?

However, part of me is warranty-conscious, and like buying new.

pentavolvo: The link to the forum members' discounts for Elemental Designs doesn't have a discount for the NINe2.x amp...which (of all they have) is what I'm most interested in right now...I could get two of those puppies, bridge one to a sub and power the doors with the other.

Am I going overboard? probably.

Apparently there is no discount on that amp right now, the nine2 is a power house in itself very underrated.

Hmm...you're selling me...

With the forums discount, here's what I've got from this thread:
Doors: eD 6500 comps - $185
Sub: eD 13oV.2 (4 ohm?) - $135
Amps: 2x eD NINe.2 - $350
Insulation: eDead V1se2 100 s.f. - $128 - 20% off $1.60/foot
Sub Box: Welfare Home Jobber - $40 (MDF, glue, jackplate, sanity)
Wiring: eD 4AWG Dual Amp Kit - $77.50
Door speaker mounting plates - $20 shipped from pentavolvo (added tip)

Subtotal: $935.50

All I'll need is a suitable head unit, and it sounds like I'll have a decent system. So...Eclipse or Alpine...or other? I don't need DVD, XM, or changer controls, but Great EQ and Subwoofer control and ready-made iPod interface. Suggestions?

Also, a couple more questions:
Is the eDead a thermal barrier as well? I'm getting some major heat from my transmission tunnel, will this cure it?

If I build my own box, it'll be stealth, right? Sitting under the cargo cover? How do the eD subs sound with a cover on them or do you stealth users leave the cover off?

The box will be a stealth box. I don't currently have a cover over mine, but do have a partion since I have a FRC. I do plan to make a cover and here's what I would suggest....

Make a cover to fit like the stock cover does. Cut out a hole over the sub so that the air can move through the cover. I plan on using black speaker grill cloth to cover the hole and then cover the entire cover with black carpet.

Since you asked about the tan/oak carpet, I'm thinking you'll have to do some searching for grill cloth that will look good against the tan/oak. Maybe you can use white and lightly spray paint the cloth to match the carpet. ???

Sounds like your system will be rockin' pretty good. And to think...you started wanting a cheaper pair of 6x9's... see, we ARE bad influences around here.

Well...the original question was 6x9 versus components...I had always intended on amps, sub, head unit, etc...but didn't want to muddy the issue.

Consider the issue the muddied.

I should change the title to Mo'Phat's Mess...it'd be more succinct.

Sounds like a much more solid plan and a far better sounding system coming together.

G'luck on the rest of the component choosing and install Mo

A 13kv would also work pretty well for you. With the power off the Nine2 you can go either way I guess it depends on how hard you like to bump, if you want something thats gonna really **** get the 13ov otherwise the 13kv will prly be plenty. If you need help talking specifics shoot me a PM and Ill get you my phone number or vise versa and I can help you out with any little details you might have

Sorry that I forgot you had planned to buy everything else besides the speakers. I think you will be nicely surprised by using the 6.5" components instead of the 6x9's.

I got my eDi 6500s components installed in my truck tonight and they do sound pretty good. I know I need to do some tuning with the whole system, but I like 'em. I have CDT CL-61's in the front doors. I haven't gotten a ton of time to listen to them to see which I like better.

So really, I'm just undecided on the doors and the amp. I shouldn't need a cap or anything truly fancy.
I sell the speaker plates for $40 shipped, which includes 2-day Priority shipping and insurance. If you have any questions, drop me an email... Mordeth just recently posted some pics of his stereo which included a sub box, amp rack, and speaker plates he bought from me. I would be happy to help out in any way I can.
