GM VKE-1000 Remote Entry ???

I'm on the hunt for remote entry for my 86. I found some info on it, but have a question. Is a VKE-1000 universal ??
I did a search through the net and found the VKE-1000 for alot cheaper, but it has a different part number and is used in the Grand Am.

I would assume the VKE100 is universal, whether it is for a grand am or not.. GM could have just changed the PN.. I have the VKE 1000 in my 89 works great, but I have not been able to find a way to turn on the alarm with the doors closed ( it will just lock the doors)

Thanks for the input Jeff. The power locks arm the factory alarm. Wouldn't the remote works just the same as all it's doing is what you do with your finger.

I haven't read the whole write up from the link http://batee.com/corvette/keylessentry/index.shtml, maybe there is something in there addressing this issue.

Yes Power locks arm the alarm, but only when one of the doors is open.

if you get in the car, shut the doors, then lock them ( with the button)
unlock the door manually and open it, I don't think the alarm will sound. If it does then it will arm the alarm with the doors shut, but from what I remember it only arms with the door open and the power lock switch.
