Default speaker wiring C4

I am installing a new stereo in my '93, looking at the shop manual all the speaker wires seem to go to the reciever in the storage compartment. do you just extend them to the dash? does it make sense to replace all the factory speaker wiring? I am just using the kenwood head unit @ 50 x 4 watts and polk audio components up front and polk 6x9's in the rear

16ga would be fine, but if you ever decide to add an amp, you could to with 14ga, but even still the 16ga will be fine
