My system has been installed for a couple months now, but yesterday the subwoofer stopped working.
When I start the car, the amp will display the voltage for about 1-2 seconds and the sub will work for those 1-2 seconds. Then the amp just cuts off and the sub stops working...
The rest of the system continues to function perfectly.
My system is a single 12" alpine sub with an alpine amp and a 2 farad capacitor. I know this description is a little vague, but I am trying to get a feel for what to check. Thanks in advance
Hmm ... poor connections at the amp (power and ground). Poor ground connection (may have worked its way loose). Bad scenarios are blown amp or blown sub (smell for a burned smell at the voice coil(s) )
Could also try and bypass the cap to see if that is causing some sort of voltage problem. Also double check that the ohm load that the sub is sending the amp is not too low (IE 2 ohms bridged)
After playing with it a little more, when I start the car, the amp is showing about 12v's and then over a period of about 3 seconds, it drops down to 8v's and just shuts off. I am really worried that the amp might be fried? Does it sound like that?
