Yeah I'm debating on going this route. I just wish someone would make a 1.5 din navigation unit. All the C5's out there.... and not to mention all the other 1.5 din cars out there, I think they would sell a few.

very interested in this, I agree a 1.5din would be better + it would allow for a bigger screen, but if nothing else comes out, I am buying this cause I don't want to invest $300 for a modified bezel. (I thought jeep had a 1.5 din Nav in some of its trucks? who makes that?)

Maybe one of our audio gurus could take a look at this system and provide us with a unbiased review C5 style.

Ive used the model of that jvc that wasnt nav, where it just had a video screen and i thought it was absolute garbage. The controls were bad and sound quality sucked. IMO spend the big bucks to mod the bezel or get a flipout

Has anyone actually installed the JVC KD-NX5000 in a C5? This thing might just be what I've been waiting for. The review I read on CNet I think, said that it was a little large for single DIN openings, which sounds like it might be perfect for C5's. I'd love to see what one of these things looks like installed and get a review from someone who has it in their C5...

Which model was it that you used? there have been 3 or 4 now. I have read some poor reviews about the older models but havnt seen anything bad about the newer ones. I believe the AVX1 was the first attepmt, there has been an AVX2, AVX11, and now AVX33, NX5000 (nav). Ive been watching them for a while, im looking to try either the nx5000 or avx33. Let us know which model you had and if anyone else has first hand exp. please chime in

Default JVC ND-KX 5000 installed

I just saw this post and wanted to say I just had this unit installed in my 97 coupe. I didn't want to go with the double Din units or the flip out screen and this just seemed to be the way to go for me. Only thing is that I need to know if anyone knows where to tap the Speed Control Wire for the Nav part of this unit. The Nav part is not working at present because of something wrong with the unit not being able to sense the vehicle is moving. Something with the speed control wire (VSS). Any help would be appreciated if someone knows where to find this wire and the color of wire to tap, location of wire etc.

By the way the screen is small but watchable in the Vette for DVD's although my wife and I really aren't planning on watching any DVD's unless we are in a traffic jam. The Hard Drive storage for the Nav and the Music is UNREAL. Enough space for Music galore and I think 13 million POI. The only thing it takes time to record the CD's to the Hard Drive in the Unit. But we do it as we drive. The Nav part looks as if it will be more than suitable when working and the bells and whistles in the unit are great. It was put in using the existing Bose speakers and I must say that there is an improvement but I will probably add new speakers down the road. Also the face of the unit sticks out about 1 inch from being flush like the original Bose head unit and it takes some getting use to. Someone with a custom install might do better. I hope this helps. And I would appreciate a PM or email with info on that speed control wire that needs to be tapped if someone knows.

I'd be very grateful for a pic of the installed unit in your C5.

I will do my best, but it will probably be later in the day tomorrow. They are finishing the NAV part of the install because they need to locate the speed control wire in the car. The unit's NAV will not function unless they tap into the car's speed control wire. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. i.e. where the wire is located, the color for the speed control wire, etc. etc for a 97 C5 Coupe.

I will get the picture up as soon as I can.

I also do not want to spend $300+ on a new bezel. Someone needs a 1.5 din system

You'd think that Pioneer would follow up with a 1.5 DIN nav, since they already market a 1.5 DIN stereo. I just keep waiting for some manufacturer to see the large market that's just waiting for a 1.5 DIN nav. In the meantime, I'll keep what I've got and just do the portable nav thing in the meantime. I still want to see how the JVC unit looks installed, though...

Whiteonrice,

Thanks for the lead to that post!!! It was exactly what I needed. I wrote to "Clayton1" who was listed in that post and he sent back some excellent photos and locations for these wires. Went to the shop with the info I got and the Installer thanked me for bringing it in and finished the job and I love the unit. JVC- KD-NX5000. Although I would like to see the face plate mounted flush with the surround but this was the way JVC did it and it was an emergency install cause my wife and I are heading out on a trip and wanted a NAV unit asap. Thanks again for the heads up on the post that you sent me too.
