Default Question about Bose cd player

I recently bought a 1991 Corvette and was wondering if the Delco Bose Gold Series cd player can be modified to play copied or burnt cds.

Default 1996 will play CD-R....

My 1996 Bose plays burned CD-Rs with no problems. It will not read a CD-RW.

I recently took the plunge and bought an 80GB I-Pod. It will hold my entire CD collection (approximately 1,000 discs), with a lot of room to spare.

I find the I-Pod, along with my Sirius satellite radio receiver, to be the ideal solution for music on the go -- especially in a C4 ragtop, with cargo space being at a premium. You might want to consider this instead of hauling a bunch of CDs around with you.

Be well,

SJW

Are you running the I-Pod through the stock stereo? If so, how? My experience with those gizmos that broadcast to an empty local FM frequency have been disappointing. TIA...

Not sure if it works or not, but I believe someone posted a while back that if you burnt it at the slowest speed 1 or 2 to 1 that it works? If you don't have them burnt already may be worth a shot.

In my C1500 I use an FM transmitter, because that's the only way in (no cassette deck, no line inputs). I've used it in rental cars for the same reason.

In my Vettes, I'll be using a cassette adapter. I also use this adapter to play the I-Pod through my stereo at work.

Be aware that not all FM transmitters are created equal. Some are much better than others. The one I have works well enough, as does the cassette adapter.

Be well,

SJW

there are also RF interfaces that will play iPOD's.

The later Bose units are more forgiving towards burned CDs than the earlier units. By 1996, home CD burners were marginally more common...

I use a cassette adapter for my MP3 and it is even clearer than the stock Bose radio.

I also have an FM transmitter for the MP3 but it doesn't work well at all. It's the kind that just boadcasts to the car's FM antenna.

I've got the DLO Transpod (broadcasts to an empty FM frequency) and while it has some nice features for the I-Pod (http://dlo.com/Products/TP_Prod.tpl?command=showpage ), the fidelity is mediocre at best, not the "Crystal Clear sound" the packaging claims. I've got the Bose with both CD and cassette players so I could use a decent adapter for either. Which model of adapters are you using? TIA...

I use the tape adapter with my iPod. Never tried an FM Xmitter, but I've not really heard many positives about them from people who live in heavily populated areas.

Call me stupid, but I had this idea of leaving the stocker in it's place (my cd and cassette are both non functional) and using the drivers arm-rest as the home for a stereo of choice. Use a remote control for the levels and so on. I really hate thinking about removing the stock system even if it doesen't work. It just looks so cool in there. I'm using the iTrip with my iPod right now. It works but it's in no way as clear as I'd like.

On the above idea, I'd suggest getting a new armrest box (if they are available) and cut it up rather than make holes in your stock one. If done properly, it might just work out pretty well.

The FM transmitter I use came from Best Buy recently. I believe the brand name is Griffin. It works satisfactorily, IMHO. Any FM transmitter will require a clear channel, which in an urban area can sometimes require some hunting around the dial, but it does work, and the fidelity isn't half bad. Not great, but not bad, and when it's the only way in, it'll do for me.

When there's a cassette deck present, but no line inputs, I use the cassette adapter -- fidelity is better than with the FM transmitter. I don't recall the brand name on mine, but I doubt there's much difference between any of them. I'll try to remember to look at it when I get to work tomorrow, and report back then. IIRC, I bought it at a WalMart in Florida last year when I wanted to use my discman in the Vette (Bose CD deck went Tango Uniform).

Be well,

SJW
