Ok... question about damping
So I've heard that using Dynamat, liquid deadener, etc is for damping the panels to prevent vibrations, but that this treatment won't help reduce road noise. So... what type of noise DOES that treatment help reduce? (And don't say vibrations! 
)

helps reduce noise that is produced by vibrations. Don't know what other answer you are looking for. Vibration is a noise. speakers produce sound by vibrations. Hope this helps somewhat

this type of material reduces panel vibrations (aka road noise) caused by the transmission of vibrations through the car actually rolling on the road.
the other kind of deadening material (foam) absorbs sound waves from sources outside the vehicle.

There is a difference from blocking sound and absorbing sound. Do a search on the Tech/General section for the C5s. Someone just did a write-up.
