Default Dbl Din C5 Install Pics

Some of these pics will be a repost but I like everything in one spot. First off Dennis has a beautiful car and had a killer list of equipment to put in this baby.
Kenwood Dbl Din (with bypass)
Kenwood Nav
Sirius Satellite Radio
JL 6 Channel Amp
EDI 6000s
Infinity 6.5 shallow mount for rears
ED 13kv2
Subthump box
Knukonceptz wiring

First off anyone who claims dbl din mod is easy is seriously out of there mind I wont go into details but my god PIA, Ill think twice before quoting a customer for install with that haha. Dennis modded the bezel himself and brough that to me, but that still left lots to do behind the dash to make everything fit. Ok here we go with pictures.

The last we will see of the bose

Some deadening applied

EDI 6000s installed, crossovers under dash running at -3db

Rears sound deadened a bit

Rears installed

Stereo frame with supports cut out

Dash with frame removed (dont ask)

A bunch of pics got skipped from here onward as it became a PIA

Kenwood installed and mounted in dash

Shot of NAVI in action

The sirius box and NAV box behind passenger seat

Amp mounted on rear wall to a piece of mdf under carpet (ground ran to passenger rear seat bolt)

A shot of the sub

This is where Dennis mounted the sirius antenna before he brought the car to me but we learned it has to be horizontal for good reception, the nav antenna is also back here

Ok now onto the system. I love the kenwood unit I wish I would have had more time to run through it with Dennis, the PAC module does a great job of bypassing the safety BS so nav is fully capable while drivin. The nav on this unit is awesome since its Garmin based, i recommened it to anyone. My dad could even work it. The JL amp is a beast. Over all the stereo sounded great after some quick tweaking, the rears werent overbearing at all by time I had the gains dialed in decently and the sub well it through out some very solid beats as Dennis will attest to. We had no problem getting the lights to dim, big 3 is next. The EDI 6000s sounded amazing especially with deadened doors they let out some very solid midbass and a very smooth sound especially for an entry level component set. All and all very impressed with the system it works great. Feel free to comment or ask questions

Very nice work. Never thought putting in sound deadening material behind the speakers. Well the car is still apart so I will be doing that this weekend.

I love it, the install looks great. Definately need to deaden the doors when you tackle that area. I installed a complete component in each door Thats 2 5.25" and 2 tweeters.I even put both crossovers in the bottom of the doors. I really want to replace my flipout Excelon to an indash. I need to just tackle it. Good job

Modding the supports is harder than it seems. There are times when you need it out(when cutting it apart), and times when you need it in(like for where to put the bottom support bracket for the radio)

Some tips for modding the brackets. Even though its harder to drill out the very large welded rivets. Try to. It will help save the brackets and this way you will be able to use the holes you drilled out. Also, depending on where you drop the radio bracket down to, you may have to add spacers. The frame has many contours and the surfaces don't mate up well. Next, you may think that dropping the radio bracket a tad lower and then adding shims under the radio will be easier. It isn't so. By doing this I ran into a problem that the HVAC module was hitting the radio bracket. SOOOO...... bring the bracket up a tad more than you would, like 1/4" maybe less, whatever the thickness of the bracket is. If I missed anything I'll add it here. It wasn't too bad modding the brackets though. Take your time

Thanks Dave... I'm sure when I get to do this it will be a slow project. Seems like something you don't want to rush with. I hope I can PM you with any questions I may have when I get to it. Right now it looks like it may be a winter project.

I already have my eye set on the new kenwood, DNX7100. It looks like a great unit and have heard nothing bad about it....

I used a 90 degree angle attachment to my drill that did the trick just fine. (Home Depot)

Hey everyone!

I've decided to tackle the project of re-doing the entire system a week ago and i believe i'm 1/2 way there...

Here is the list of items i spent bonus money on:
-AVIC Z2 hard drive based Navigation (980.00)
-Dynamat extreme X 2 bulk packs (118.00 each)
-Polk/Momo 6.5" component systems X 2 sets(146.00 each Fr & Rear)
-Fosgate 600a4 (had it for years paid 300.00 back in the day)
-Wires and cables (about 100.00)
-Speaker plates for front (30.00)

So far i have:
Dynamat'd the entire car (day and night difference)

installed components front and rear (rear were a royal PITA due to clearence and space restrictions)

ran the + wire from battery and all signal wires to rear

Pulled the radio bezel out and started the job of cutting, fiberglassing, sanding, bondoing, sanding again and now in stage 2 of bondo to get the lines smooth enough for texture paint.

Pulled the stock radio and A/C contol along with the anoying shelves that are rivited in place.

All in all, the project has taken way more than expected but the outcome is already obvious to be stunning....

I will be posting pictures as i go and would like to thank this forum for such a rich amount of information saving time and answering many questions i've had along the way.

Wow, what a day.......

I think i'm almost done with the bezel since i filled and sanded about 3X and sprayed self etching primer (which is sandable and has a light fill to it) to see where the high and low areas are in the bezel..
All in all, looks pretty good!

The Avic Z2 was installed with custom made brackets and everything lines up 100% with the bezel...

I still have to hook up the amp which will be in the rear center cargo area..

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THERE IS A GROUND IN THE AREA????

Since i dynamat'd the entire trunk, i must have covered up any bolts that might be attached to the frame...

Congrats on everyone who has posted their experience in complete sound overhaul! The work performed is of amazing quality.

Pics coming very soon.

Thanks

Thanks
The nearest grounding point is the seat mouting bolt. You can also use the inner door frame but the bolt there is much smaller.

How did you end up fitting components in the rears? I had to build a speaker ring to fit mine
