I just received a PXDP iPod2car unit for my 2000 Convertible with a CD changer. I disconnected the harness going into my changer so I could plug it into the ipod2car unit. They are not the same! The harness that plugs into my changer is a small black plug with 7 wires going into it. The ipod2car has a large white plug with many connectors in it. The plugs are NOT compatible. Everything I have read states that the install is simple and straightforward.... Has anyone encountered this?? Am I missing something?
Sounds like you're on the right track. The CD harness is a small black plug. If you look closely at the ipod2car harness, only one side has actual metal wire leads inside...this is the side the black plug connects to. The CD harness actually only fills 1/2 of the ipod2car connector. Took me a minute to figure it out as well, but it really does work Good luck!

Thanks G8rDMD... I will go have a closer look, but it really seemed as though the plastic harnesses themselves aren't designed to mate... They both appear to be female connectors. (cool in theory... but just not how it was designed )

On another note, maybe they sent you the wrong connector...
Well... I have come to the conclusion that I have the wrong adaptor... I have sent 2 messages to the ebay seller I purchased it from... no response. I think I'll eventually get a response... the seller has 100% feedback with nearly 250 feedback entrys.
If someone has the time, could you post a pic of the control box connector on your ipod2car? I'd appreciate it greatly.
THANKS G8rDMD!!! That is exactly what I needed to see. There is obviously another harness I need because I have only the ipod2car box and the wire that connects to the ipod itself.
I was considering removing my factory CD changer in favor of connecting an Ipod. Is it as simple as unplugging the factory CD changer and plugging in the ipod2car adapter? In other words, do I use the plug that is currently going into the CD changer and plug that end into the ipod2car adapter?

From what I understand, yes. It is that simple. I purchased the ipod2car adapter on ebay (there are many new ones on there) and I ordered the harness from Crutchfield. I have yet to put it all together.. still waiting on Crutchfield.

Yes, you just unplug the CD changer and use that same cable to plug into the ipod2car. It really doesn't get any easier than that I love mine and the sound is great quality!
cool... I already have the CD changer unplugged getting ready for my amp/sub install. I'll have to try the Ipod route before I spend a lot of time relocating my CD changer.
What do I need to buy to pull this off? Will I be able to control the Ipod using the stock radio controls?
You can control basic functions with the HU, and I do mean BASIC. You can basically flip from one song to the next or back, but for most functions you'll want to use the ipod. The volume output is constant, so it doesn't matter if you have the ipod way down or fully up--volume is controlled by your stereo's **** only. The cables are long enough--I have the controller in the center compartment in the trunk with the ipod cable routed under the trim and exiting by the e-brake handle. All in all, a very cool and easy to use device
I moved the cabling from the center compartment to the right one and used some double sided sticky tape to mount it to the wall of that compartment. from there, I just tucked it under the carpet along the right wheel well and down behind the back of the passenger seat and ran it under the right side of the center console and have it coming out by the left front side of the passenger seat.
