I have both also. I find that the XM has better reception(believe it or not). Places that my XM antenna works fine will not receive a Sirius signal at all. Other than that, I find very little difference. The merger is a big question mark as to what will happen with the two in the future.
I have had both and I like Sirius better for my type of music. I like classic rock and Sirius does a much better job of number of stations and programming. I have never had any problem with reception and have my antenna mounted inside the rear bumper cover, on top of the license plate recess. The signal goes through with no problem. Also Sirius has NFL football, college football, and Nascar.
Nobody knows if the merger between the 2 companies will go through. The government is saying that if the merger takes place, that it will be a monopoly. The execeutives at both Sirius and XM are both fighting the claims. Who know what will happen?
I've had both as well. For me the choice was easy, Sirius. I got better signal strength, better sound quality, more channel selections that fit my taste (9,20,21,24,35,36), and lastly, they have NFL, NASCAR, and Stern.
Mine is stuck on 8,9, 19-24
(80/90's and then all the rock stations)
I hate stern and football, so I couldn't care less about that, but the music programming is much better. Its a shame GM forces XM in their pre-installed cars. My dad just got a new Acadia for my mom and it comes stock with XM.
