I am not sure about the C5 but JL makes some nice pre fabbed sub enclosures for the C6 that go in the trunk of the coupe or behind the seats in the vert. I am considering a set for my vert.
Pretty sure that subthump and the ebay style enclosures are usually .5" MDF. Generally used to gain a little airspace and mounting depth (1/2" obviously) and save some cost. You do loose stiffness ... and generally speaking flex in your enclosure is bad ... another option is true .5" birch .. but you are looking at say $150 a sheet vs $20 for MDF heh.
I've used both 1/2" and 3/4" mdf on boxes I've built. Personally I find 3/4" overkill -UNLESS, you are using a MONSTER SUB that puts out an extraordinary amount of bass, or if the face of the box is extraordinarily large... 1/2" is more than sufficient for most enclosures.

I use both, depending on what the customer wants. The 1/2" does save some weight as most corvette owners don't like alot of weight due to racing. Most of the time I will use 1/2" on the bottom and sides of stealth boxes and use 3/4" on the top to help support the sub(s). Due to the small size of the enclosure, unless you will be using a powerful sub, flexing will be minimal if any, due to the angles of the box and it's size. I have tested 1,000 watt RMS subs in both 1/2" with 3/4" tops and all 3/4" and haven't seen or heard a difference in sound. Now there is no way I would use 1/2" all the way, but the very minimal I will do is to use 1/2" on the sides and 3/4" on the tops. I'm sure if you were into db dragging and such then a differnce might be shown. In long/large enclosures you will definately get into some flexing if using a decent sub. I believe in something as small as stealth boxes, etc, I don't see flexing a real concern, unless you use something like a JL 10w7, etc and then that would not fit in a stealth enclosure and more less 1/2" wouldn't hold the weight of it,lol. I do what the customer wants and whether or not I know if it will hold up or not.
