I have read alot of threads, but i still have a question: I visited a local car stereo shop, and they told me that becuase of the layout of my car a needed a sub that is not deep in length. I was confused but ok. My question is i want to buy a subthump stealth box with a alpine type R 10will this fit in the drop down in the trunk?

Thanks Guys! You can contact me via PM here or by email @ skunkcat@msn.com. The alpine Type R 1042 I believe will work in a stealth enclosure. The only concern I have with it is the basket of the sub is pretty wide on that Particular model and may interfere with the front angle of the box. That sub calls for around 0.5 -0.8 cu ft in a sealed enclosure per Alpine specs. My stealth boxes are around 0.83-0.85. I can use baffles to create a better environment for that sub if need be. Do you have the sub? If not, I can work up a sub/box deal for you and that way I can make sure the sub fits and there are no problems.
Just so there's no misunderstanding, my first post was not an implicit endorsement of subthump. Can someone elaborate on the issues, even if it's by PM? Appreciated.

I bought a sub & box from Steve for my truck. Quick delivery, good box, etc. Maybe he's improved or whatever, but wasn't my experience, though obviously it was yours.

When I saw this responses on SubThump it concerned me. I just purchased a stealth sub box with Light Oak carpet and a 12" ED sub installed in it on Monday. It is scheduled for delivery today. I'd say that's pretty good turn around.
As long as it performs to my liking I'll be happy....
I have mixed feelings with subthump. Ive installed there boxes in a number of cars and never an issue with them, always top notch fitment, and im not just talking vettes im talking a number of cars. I find the owner to be a ***** though when Ive had an issue before
Only the large size subs (i.e JLw6 or larger) will require special boxes. A type R 10 should easily fit in a flush box, and might fit in a stealth box. Airspace with the 10" model shouldn't be a significant concern, however you can use polyfill to help simulate a larger box.
On an older car I had. I had not only a fit problem but a lack of quality in the materials used. When I tried to get my money back, it took 3 months and tons of headaches and attitude, like they never make mistakes. Needless to say, treat me like crap and I'll take my business else where.
I try not to bash the crap out of vendors, but you asked.

That's OK, and understandable, and why I said a PM would be OK. I'm not looking for someone to trash a vendor, but I do expect that when you express a preference, you better have reason or data to back it up. I've noticed there are a number of forum members willing to recommend one vendor over another for absolutely no other reason than they're looking to validate their own choice (which was likely made without any research). I don't know either of these guys, and but for threads such as this, wouldn't know one from the other.

Radio, it's time for you to dig into the physics of enclosure design. There's no such thing as a "special" box. EVERY driver out there has volume requirements, and JL is no different, nor anything special. There are 10" drivers that do well in 0.5 cubic feet, and others that need over 2.0. In particular, for an Alpine Type-R 10, a difference of 25% in box volume will significantly change the character of the sound it produces. You're making me nuts with statements like that.
