NewB Help!
My wife's C5 coupe is a project car. I know almost nothing about the history of the car. I recently replaced the engine and transmission with the help of the forum, so I figured I'd start here with my latest problem.
When I bought the car, as I was cleaning it out, there was a multi disc cd player in the rear hatch area, but wasn't connected. The factory head unit worked, but looked terrible, and the rear speakers didn't respond at all. I replaced the head unit with one purchased off the forum from a member, so I don't think that's my problem. That being said, the rear speakers still don't work. I have gone through the diagnostic in the service manual, which if I understand it, was merely looking for continuity in the circuits to the speakers, which there is.
How do I test the speakers themselves? Could it be that they both need to be replaced? They appear to be ok, no rips or tears, they just don't respond.
Any help you guys could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

To test the speakers: Pull them out and measure the resistance across the speaker terminals with a multimeter. You will probably read somewhere between 3-10 ohms. (I don't know the specification, but anywhere in that ball park would mean that the voice coil is probably okay.)
If you have an old stereo, you could always hook up the speakers and see if they play. I bet they do.
If you test the speakers and they are okay, then put them back in and pull your HU out of the dash. There are a couple of connectors on the back of your HU, one of which connects your rear speakers to the HU. You should be able to use your meter to 'ring' out your rear speakers from that connector. (I don't have a manual in front of me for the pin-out for the HU, but you might be able to find it in the FAQ.)
I just had a thought: Go to Wal-Mart and buy a GM wiring harness in the car audio section. Should cost you less than $15. The harness plugs directly into your GM wiring harness and will give you 4 sets of speaker leads that you would use to hook up an "aftermarket" HU. Use the purple and green wires to test your rear speakers.
Look HERE for the GM pin out: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/GM-Wiring.pdf
Hope this helps.
