Default AVIC D3 Install C5

I'd like to start off saying, I am not cheap
I'll spend whatever it takes to achieve my goals with this car.

Recently I bought audio equipment to replace the Bose system & looked for a place install it. Each one scared me away as they made it seem impossible to install a double din in a 1 1/2 space and said they would do their best but they were unsure if I'd be pleased.

So I took the car away and began going at it and have it almost completed. Keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about electric/wiring.

What I have done so far is run all of the wiring, mounted the amps, installed sub/box, installed all new speakers, battery terminals/fuse holders etc, mounted nav antenna and trimmed the radio surround for the headunit to fit.

Now all there is left is to wire the headunit. I have it set to play dvds and do nav. while the car is moving already. Have the RSS wire hooked up.

What I need help with is going through each wire and making sure it doesn't need to be hooked up or if it does to where. If there are instructions that are very clear on this that would work otherwise I'll need some help!

Thank you

The FAQ sticky at the top of this forum will help you a lot.

You'll need an adapter for the antenna to fit.

You'll need an adapter to plug into the car harness that you removed from the stock head. This will give you loose leads to connect to.

You'll need the connector that plugs into your new head unit. This will also give you loose leads to connect to.

Take your time and compare the wiring schematics of both loose lead connectors (LF spkr, RR spkr, +12V, etc.). Make sure you understand them all before making permanent connections and then make sure you solder all connections. I use heat shrink tubing to insulate. Tape will work but has a tendency to come off in about six months.

You'll need to go into the passenger footwell compartment to get ACC power and it will not stay on when you turn off the car like it did stock.

If this is what it sounds like you aren't going to be happy with the look. You'll need to remold the bezel so it is smooth. It can be done yourself with some effort or you can do like my lazy butt did and buy a 2DIN bezel from a supporting vendor like C5KIDD.

Whatever you do, take your time. Doing it right the first time will make you much happier with the result.

Good Luck.

Thanks I have the antenna adapter already.

Do I have to buy an adapter to go onto the stock bose connector?
Can't you just use the connector that came with the AVIC and wire that up as needed and leave the bose connector alone?

Also I believe I got the ACC from an orange wire under the steering column if that is correct?

I am happy with how the trimming worked out because my interior is painted smooth jet black and it matches the headunit.

Thank you for your help

Also reinstalled the door speakers today with real adapters and am wondering does it matter which way the center piece of the speaker is facing? It is angled. You can see it in this pic.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Alpine-Type-S-6-...QQcmdZViewItem

Are those center pieces considered the same as tweeters? Thanks

Also can someone please show me a picture or better description of where everyone speaks of grounding the amp. I wasn't able to find it with the carpet ripped up in the rear even. Thanks!

I am getting ready to install a Kenwood DNX7100 unit in my 02 Vert. I would really like to retain the manner the stock works, i.e. continues to play until you open the door.

If someone out there has detailed instructions to accomplish this it would be greatly appreciated...

See the link I posted above? There are 2 ways to do it with relays or you can buy the module which is expensive. I think I understand it just need to know which is the door wire to tap into.
