Default 2008 Nav Do or Don't

I'm placing the order for my 2008 Coupe and I've been debating on whether the factory Nav is worth it or not. I like the idea of a factory item with the new ipod connection but I also want a nice stereo in the car. Quick like can someone give me the pro's of going aftermarket? I don't want to debate brands just get more up to date info than I could find in the FAQ's area.
Thanks!!!

I got the factory NAV in my 2006 and will be removing it this spring for an aftermarket unit. The only advantage it has is integration with the HUD, but that is not enough to overcome it's shortcomings. Beyond the fact that it's NAV is mediocre at best (goofy routes, always wanting you to U-turn should you dare stray from where it says to go, etc) it is crippled with Nanny State/Lawyer Nags and has no support for Bluetooth, iPod control, DVD playback, reverse camera, etc etc. Aftermarket units have WAY more options.

You mention a "new" iPod connection in the factory setup. Admittedly I don't go to C6 General much any more (almost as noisy as OT these days) so I don't keep up on the latest & greatest, but last I heard the only "iPod" support the 08's have is an aux jack on the face and the NAV doesn't have even that. While an AUX jack is certainly better than nothing it still doesn't let you bury the iPod in your console and control it from the touch screen the way aftermarket units do.

Oh, and did I mention that aftermarket units SOUND way better?

My pair of pennies... buy the least expensive stereo your package allows, rip it all out and start over.

I picked up my car on Friday and I can't wait to pull the Bose system out of it. The distortion is incredible. I cancelled the NAV on my order before it was built after reading all the comments about how poor it is on the forum. Figured I would put the money toward a really good system (Kenwood / JL).

I took delivery of my '08 JSB with Nav in November. I have to agree that the Nav integration with the HUD is great but I have been very disappointed with the audio quality and lack of iPod integration. In hind sight I wish I would have gone with the stock unit. I could have used the savings for an audio system upgrade.

Default go aftermarket

had the nav in my o5 thaught it worked ok. in my o8 i could not see making the $1,600 upgrade from the 2lt to the 3lt just si could then pay another $1,600 for the nav. I now have a dnx7100 kenwood ($1,500 installed) and it works great! has bluetooth too which iis a big help.
