wow, alot of people have looked....but no comments, does it look that bad????usually someone will chime in and say "hey that looks like crap" or "looks nice" or even..It would look better if you did this or that. I was faced with the challenge of finding a place to install an amp....without giving up the use of the cargo area.....I thought about just mounting it to the floor in the cargo but thought that I did not want to advertise to the local car thieves......plus it did not look to pleasing. So, I removed the storage bin cover (the one with the lid that raised up)and built a tray with a lid..kind of false floor. After looking at the pictures I recut a new lid to fill any gaps along the edges and a few pieces of carpet in the right spots and to give a slight overhang on the back edge.
I am wondering why you put the 6 x 9's there, instead of in the rear locations. Also, like RadioFlyer said, cover the rack w/ carpet of vinal or something. Did you sound deaden the car?
thanks for the input.....will post new pics after finishing....
speaker location....I saw how they had installed the rear speakers on the convertible and liked the location better...seems like more sound being sent to the front of the car....have plans of replacing the carpet sometime this year, will order the rear carpet without the speaker cut-outs.
I am waiting for my 5.25 polk momo's for the front. I saw were one guy cut the front off of the plastic speaker housing on the front speakers and put a piece of MDF on the old housing face. Looks like a real smooth install for the front speakers. I just finished the second one last night.....I plan on filling the plastic housing with expanding foam, then hollowing out the area were the speaker sits. That should deaden any sound issues.
for future reference, you can actually post the image here instead of the linke since you're using photobucket. Under each picture in photobucket you'll see 4 types of links. Left click on the "image code" then go to your post on the CF. "ctrl + V" will past the image code to the post and it will show up as an image instead of a link.
I'm new to amps but I do know that one of the key manufacturers installation points is to be sure you have enough air flow around the unit to dissipate the heat. You may run into auto-shutdown situations if it overheats. Otherwise I do like the stealthy look and the fact that the storage area is still semi-functional. I'm sure it'll look great when finished.
