So... two 10s or a single 12?
10"= 78 sq in x 2 speakers =157 sq in
8" = 50 sq in x 2 speakers = 100 sq in If 4 were added it would still take a lot of volume like 2- 12" speakers.
I fit 2-12" into my '68, I like it!
The front of the box is angled to allow a larger circle. Side view looks like a triangle attached to a square box.
On amps, a cheap route is to buy a good 4-channel. If this isn't sufficient in the future you can re-wire for just 2-channel and add a second amp. This gets you going and also allows you to see how much more power if needed later.
The single 12 is in a sealed box. I am going to redo it in a band pass box with the seperates in the stock locations. I am doing this because I need to make it lower so i can accomidate a glass window top I plan on adding in the spring. I'm going to make two 10" boxes for the Grand Cherokee I just picked up. As you can see though, 2 10s just won't fit in my vette.

Here's a couple of shots of mine...
1 10" (Infinity Perfect 10)
Alpine Amp (5Ch)...drives the doors, 6x9's, and the sub. Head unit drives the dash speakers... (all speakers are Infinity Kappa series except sub)
Everything is removable... with no extra holes drilled anywhere...

2 10's in your car will blast a single 12. I had a friend with 1 18" JL W6 and it was oblitterated by 2 12's.....the difference was uncomprehensible.... :eek:
1 12 in the right box MIGHT go lower, not necessarily. Depends on what 10's you have. I have to JL 10W6's I will sell to you pretty cheap.
You mentioned box specs earlier and the W6 10's pretty much fall there.....Sealed box they want right at .65 Cubic feet and a ported they want 1 cubic foot. I love these subs and hate that I have to sell them, but I am really in debt and my vehicle got repoed.... :( :(
Let me know what you think.....my # is 615-890-2437

Damn fool who had the car before me had this system installed - real hack job. U2's 'Mysterious Ways' sounded incredible on it. But I took it all out for my interior restoration. What I discovered was that big wood box with the subwoofers and amplifier, which weighed about 60 pounds, wasn't even bolted in. It just sat in the rear. Stopping quick would have brought that right towards me. Now it's history (except it's still in my basement).

I'm probably going to end up with dual 8 separates and a single 10 in the middle. Gotta cover the midrange too...

In a small space like a vette- if you want a flat response curve, you would choose speakers that don't move as much air, in an efficient enclosure. Nowadays the some manufacturers have learned this market well- and knowing how we think, they now build 12 inch woofers that move less air than some 10 or even 8 inch woofers in some cases. If you look at the Theile Small specs- you can see it. That enables us to put BIG speakers in SMALL boxes- and move just as much air as, well, an 8 inch woofer. They also handle GOBS of power, with huge motor structures and vented poles etc. It doesn't change the science though.
Scorp- if you want a relatively flat curve, look closely at the well designed 8's as a pair, a dvc 10, a bridged mono 4 ohm 10. If the enclosure is designed properly, you'll have all the SPL you could want, the car itself boosts lower frequencies by about 12 Hz ,and you could hear all of the music- like the cannons in the 1812 overture on telarc disc, or a nice deep ball massaging 25 Hz sine wave at 100+ dB. Your choice...
