I'm looking to install/amplify a (couple) subwoofers in my coupe. I will either install 10s in the storage compartments, or make a box/rack that goes across the back for a 12 and mount amps to it also.
Ideas? And who makes the BEST tightest/thumpiest speakers as of right now?
I had this box with 2 JL10W6s powered by a PPI A600.2 in my 86. I have since put all of the original equipment back into the car.
This box produced a great sound for Rock/Metal/Jazz styles of music where deep bass is not the emphasis. Don't get me wrong this box can really hit. But it lacks real low tone response.
It depends on what you want out of the box. I listen to wide variety of music. This combo has very accurate bass which is perfect for a lot of different styles.
Holy, not that one!! I don't think I could store my sunglasses in the back with that thing. :D :D That looks like an awful lot of volume. I was just looking at some and they claimed a ported box volume of 1 cubic Foot, and 0.6 if not ported.
How are the Kicker solobarics? The square ones? Those would drop in easy from the looks of it.
Enough to move the windshield, hows that? J/k Personnaly I feel whatever power your running to your midrange and up, multiply by three as a base figure and then go from there. Good luck in your search

Hah, everything is off of the head unit right now. :(
This is what is in the car right now.
-- Pioneer DEH-P77DH CD Receiver
-- Infinity Kappa 10.1t 3/4" Tweeters (in dash)
-- Infinity Kappa 65.1mb 6.5" Mid-Ranges (in doors)
-- Memphis PowerReference PR93 6x9 3-Way (in hatch)
If any of that is crap, just tell me and it will go. :) I figured that I could get two amplifiers..., one for the mids/highs, and the second for subs. Is this a legit possibility?
Best thing is if your happy with what you currently have then keep it. Personnaly I would either choose a five channel, 4 channel amp and two channel amp for subs, or a 6 channel amp. You'd probably pleased the best with the five or 6 channel amps. They offer good flexability and speaker seperation. However if a budgit is present, choose a good 2 channel amp and go to town with the bass.

Yes and no. It is fine with the top on and windows up, but once you put em' down or take the top off, it is a whole new world. I want volume and clarity so that I can still hear it cleanly with the top off on the highway. There is always a budget, but I don't mind buying things one at a time and dropping it all in when I get it.
Then amp shopping, you will go. Once you've decide what subwoofer setup your going to use, just find an amplifier/s that best suit you budget and price range.
I'd go dual 10's.. I always use to run 2- 12's in my cars. . then in my other car I decided to try 3-10's with about 600 watts going to them... was very pleased with the way the 10's sounded.
I'm a huge fan of Orion amps, JL audio subs and Boston Acoustic speakers... but there is so much out there that it's really up to you and your ears before you buy.
To produce sub-bass you need to move air. that is the simple fact...
how to move air... cone size.
now... how to move that cone... power...
I am getting ready to install subs in mine, and I plan on putting 2 8" subs in the rear speaker areas. I don't want a big box sucking up all that space.
most 8's will run within a box of .3 cf or so, and run with 50watts or more power.
I am debating between getting either JL Audio, Rockford or Boston subs... don't know yet.
considering the size of the vettes interior, some huge box with 2 12" is way over the top. We are not doing dB drags, are we?
I plan on using the rear channels of my present 4 channel amp. I know that is not enough power, but at some point, I plan on upgrading to the new BK Butler 4 channel "Blue". These are vacuum tube enhanced amps. I had a 2 channel 1500 a while back, an man, they sound so NICE.
I am presently running Canton Pullman series RS1's out front, but plan on upgrading to an old pair of RS3's - 3 way seperates, a 6" midbass, 4" mids and 1" tweets...
I hope to get the amp sometime next year... kinda job dependant, I guess...
2 10s will give you more volume, 1 12 will go deeper. Depends what you want to do. A single 12 will have a smaller box. Either way, it'll sound great if you use good stuff. I'd go with the pair of 10s if you are willing to sacrifice the space and shell out the cash. I like the SoundStream Exact 10s, and the Focal subs, but they are $$$. AudioBahn has some great top end stuff also.

My choice would be 2 a/d/s 310rs subs in a box. This is what will be going in my own
car-(if I ever get it put back together  ) If you can afford them, go with a/d/s
amps too--I have three of them that are close to 18 years old, and they still rock!!!
Get a Tempest or a Focal Utopia sub. Preferrably the latter. They're 11's i think
thyere the only subs that have really impressed me, at least. the rest are just blurry loud noise.
Single 12 with subs in the front. I am not to familer with C4's but if you can do 8's up front and a 12 in the back. You will cover the spectum of bass. :yesnod:
