You will have to fool the HU into thinking the CD changer is connected to the E&C serial data buss. You can then use the chnger audio input. See my other post on the details.
2.
If you are VERY handy with a soldering iron, you can modify your HU motherboard. You will need to add shielded cables connected from the motherboard to an external dash mounted DPDT switch. The switch will allow disconnecting the radio circuit card audio outputs that are fed to the audio processor IC and substituting your MP3 player inputs. The HU will be in FM mode.
Option 2 sounds attractive. I am not at all handy with a soldering iron. I am a Chemical Engineer and very weak in my understanding of electronics. I hope I can find somebody knowledgeable like you who can make it happen.
Do you have the PIN Layout of the Factory CD Changer????? Maybe there is a way to splice into the audio out section of the CD Changer. Do you think this is possible????
Or is there a way to somehow route the MP3 Player Signal to run through an FM Frequency?????
There has to be away. Soldering into the motherboard is not an option for me, I might solder the whole radio together. I took Electronics but that was years ago, I never used it in my line of work.
What I was thinking also was.........I used to have an FM Modulator (Or something like that) that I would connect to my porable CD Player, it was battery powered and it would send the signal out through the FM Band and I could listen to my CD's on my Factory Tape Radio. It didn't have the best sound, especially when the batteries were running low. Maybe I can figure out how to hard wire one to power off the Accessory Wire.
I have an FM modulator. the quality is poor. The other problem in the new orleans area is finding an unused frequency where you can set the modulator. They could probably improve the modulateors by adding a seek and scan function.
I would not recommend a FM modulator on Coupe's. The Coupe uses an ARS antenna, in short an active antenna. You could try it, but I do not recommend it. I know this sort of setup is in use on other vehicles with ARS antennas with good results. In general I do not like FM modulators. You end up with FM sound characteristics.
Splicing into the CD changer harness would cause problems. Sharing the audio input would present to much load on either device (changer or whatever you plug in). The result would be distortion, loss of volume, and other noise issues.
