All the problems that I was having after installing an avic-d3 in my 08, non-bose w/onstar were solved after replacing a faulty gmah24 with the metra gmos-04. I'm not saying the metra is better than the peripheral, but in my case it was since the gmah24 was faulty. I also like the fact that I didn't need a separate box for the chimes.
The main reason I swapped out the adapter was that it finally stopped powering up the stock amp, thus I was not getting sound.
This problems that existed due to the faulty adapter were:
- had to use ground loop isolators to eliminate popping noise on shutdown, no longer needed the isolators after replacing the kit and get no popping or static as before
- car wouldn't start after 30 hours or so - battery was draining. before replacing adapter drain of .8 amps and after drain dropped to .1
- onstar even sounds better for some reason??
So, just thought I'd share my experience in-case anyone has similar issues after installing an aftermarket radio.
Glad to hear you got everything working. That may be the first time ever I have seen a report of the Metra harness working better than the Peripheral. But what matters is results, enjoy!
