power window dilema

I have a 1976 Stingray with power windows. Drivers side window works, sometimes. When I apply 12 volts directly to window motor contacts, it goes up and down like it should. I connected a voltmeter to the two wires in the plug (from the switch) and I get 12 volts on both wires when I toggle the switch. Seems as thought the switch is fine as well as the motor. Why is the operation intermittant-any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Bad ground connection or relay.

I believe if one wire goes "hot" the other wire is supposed to switch to ground through a relay.

That is how the direction is changed.

I'll trace wires to relay and repalce/clean connections or wires to see if that solves the problem Thanks
