I have the factory sound system (CD player/Bose). The problem I am having is intermittent sound distortion in all four speaker positions, L/R/Front/Rear. My system might be crystal clear for several days then all of a sudden start putting out distorted sound from all speakers.
I go a week or two without turning it on and then, when I do turn it on, it might be crystal clear again or distorted.
I've done no troubleshooting other than verify the distortion, when it occurs, is in all four speaker positions.
Has anyone else seen this problem or have any ideas?
My ideas:
(1) There is a loose, intermittent ground wire connection. This seems like a real possibility.
(2) The amplifier is defective and acting up imtermittently. I'm not sure this is the problem, especially if there are multiple amplifiers because the problem is not isolated to left or right.
(3) Blown speaker(s). Not likely because they are crystal clear, even at high volumn levels, when the system is not acting up.
Can someone point me in the right direction to begin troubleshooting?
Get rid of the factory system and install an aftermarket system. I replaced my working system and could not be happier. The sound is far better and louder than the bose.

I understand what you're saying but I'm completely happy with the sound quality of the Bose and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars upgrading the sound system.
I simply want to "repair" the stock "Bose" system if possible.
